You need an AVI player, like NetToob. Download one off the web.

You probably need to install the DivX codec (http://www.divx-digest.com/software/divxcodec.html).

Thumbs up

I did what Cyclocide suggested and installed the codec. During installation, it said that the codec I was trying to install was older than the one I had. I installed it anyway, and guess what? I can play DIVX/AVIs now with Windows Media Player! Thanks, dude!

Cool another note

Divx is one format that avi files are stored as, smr is another. If you find you can't play one even though you have divx installed, go to www.gdivx.com for codecs and other movie help. (no i don't work for them)

Actually, if they're incomplete DivX files, you can still play them by running http://www.divx-digest.com/software/divfix.html.
