CPU Stalling and other comments Problem: I am not sure if it has something to do with recent Windows patches (IE5.0.2919), but this app and a few others somethimes burn 100% CPU when there doesn't seem to be a reason. No screen refresh (Agent 1.8 usually too), seems like an event queue stall. If you have any knowledge or solution of this type of problem let me know at hans via ica dot net. Would you have a programmer's tip to help discover the problem? SoftIce or BoundsChecker way? Sometimes Norton CrashGuard "Unfreeze" helps, sometimes makes the system unstable. The stalls usually last about 30 seconds.
Feature: Is there a way to send a message to people downloading from my machine i.e. limits, greetings, suggestions etc? I would like to tell people that they can dl large files if they are alone, but not when there are many people getting large files. When transfers go past 12 hours, I want my machine and bandwidth back for work or play, and don't want to abort xfers on them.
Bouquet: I like that you have upload/download connection limits. On ADSL it's badly needed.
Needed: The ability to change settings like bandwidth limits on the fly without stopping the software.
Feature: Explain search string, if/how wildcarding works
Feature: Reduce the number of connections when the upload/download traffic % of max increases. i.e. when transmitting files at max bandwidth, close incoming channels, or suspend them. Apply load balancing to these two conflicting resources i.e. increase connections up to specified limit so as to maximize availability and searchability, but drop when file transfers start.
Feature: If there is any feedback from the network as to how many TTL's are currently being exploited for the current search, or count of % of hosts contacted (asked), can this be displayed? Especially % of hosts that are reachable using current ttl, and current furthest ttl. This would allow later self-tuning to make sure excessive looping requests don't happen i.e. people using 255 as ttl.
Thanks for a better software. |
