messages to users I would like to send messages to other users. It could be implemented with right click, so you donīt need a new button (skins) regards, pepe |
My honest reply: forget about it. We're working very hard on other things right now, and if I havn't said this quite a million times yet, stability is our primary concern with the upcoming release 0.7. So far it's nearly rock solid. Not to mention the fact that the Gnutella 0.4 procotol doesn't have any type of chat or messaging support whatsoever. -Yytrium- |
The "chat"-feature is as often requested as condemned http://www.gnutellanews.com/forums/rolleyes.gif. I do not want to insist on chatting, but people requesting it do that for a reason. If you have to kick out people who just copied 90% of your huge raytracing animation, it would be nice to be able to tell them why. There are many cases, where the client could want to have valuable information from the server (scheduled logoff being the most important). That does not necessarily involve actions taken by the server's administrator like chatting, though. A first step would be to provide a handful of error codes in the protocol for failed data transfers. |
I just had a brainstorm reading this post; there could easily be a "MOTD" feature implemented, simply by harmlessly extending the Gnutella 0.4 protocol, just a little. Right now, when you connect to a host, you're either sending a Gnutella connection request, or a HTTP GET request. On the remote Gnotella machine, there could reside a MOTD text file, and when the local Gnotella machine connects to it, it could request the file with a simple protocol extension, like, "GNOTELLA MOTD\r\n" Other clients that don't support the feature would simply not respond to the request. What do you think? -Yytrium- |
