Don't Add Anything I like Gnotella the way it is now. I see a lot of request for chat, and IM, and other dumb things, but please never add them. There are other programs that can do anything like that better. If you want IM use ICQ, if you want chat, well.. use ICQ, or IRC. If you want a web browser use NS or IE, you don't need this in Gnotella. Too many programs make this mistake, trying to add too many "features". Gnotella is great, I finally trust it over Gnutella .56 :) And the programmers have done an excellent job. Keep up the good work, and don't let Gnotella turn into a Winamp/ICQ/Netscape feature disaster. |
Amen! Finally, someone who accepts Gnotella for what it is, rather than what it could be. I agree, putting everything under the sun into a program is BAD; I've seen plenty good programs die because the programmers turned it into a hybrid program that does like five tasks, instead of the one it's supposed to. On the other hand, I defend the web interface support, simply because it's a great convenience if you have to remotely get files from a server computer, and don't (or can't) install a client on the remote machine. Other than that, I'm with ya... -Yytrium- |
yes but gnotella really needs an instant messaging system. When your connected to gnet it is so lonely... and if you hafta ask someone a question or if something is f*cked up a simply IM system would work miracles...There are a lot of times an IM system would come in handy forget about chat room **** like that, that is un-needed... if you've ever been to napster chat rooms you'll see it is a bunch of spammers and jerks, etc... |
you wouldn't need user names to send IM's duh... it would just be a text message sent to the IP address you specify! i think that IM's would be cool and useful, respond if you agree... all you would need is a simple right click command... |
I actually wrote a program called Gnat a few months ago that does EXACTLY that. There were conflicts in the sockets between Gnotella and Gnat, so we couldn't merge the code bases, but it was a great idea at the time. I've stopped developing it since then (it was about finished as it was, anyway, but still). I liked it, it was one of the programs I've ever written, but just didn't work out. Maybe someday I'll post it on the site or something... -Yytrium- P.S. - "Lonely?" Do you feel lonely in Internet Explorer? [This message has been edited by Yytrium (edited 07-28-2000).] |
darn, o well |
I love the way that Gnotella works now and I completely agree that it doesn't need chat or I.M. cababilities. Expecially considering that by adding chat, I.M., etc. you would also have to add user names and **** . But one thing that would be great is a more advanced way of searching expecially a more when it comes to MP3's. |
