Gnotella (Windows) Gnotella has been discontinued. We highly recommend you use an actively developed client instead. |

![]() My computer is dialing out to the internet by itself. It didn't do that until I downloaded Gnutella. Is it Gnutella or should I get some holy water. If it is how do I disable that? ------------------ --Man who goes through turnstyle backwards going to Bangkok. |

![]() Have you downloaded and installed anything after installing Gnotella and before the automatic dialing started? If so, you should get a trojan scanner and do a complete sweep of your hard drive. If you can, try to find out what number is being dialed, as many of these trojans have your computer dial 900#'s. |

![]() Programs like WebWasher and RealPlayer will do this aswell, but all programs have a tickbox somewhere in their properties or preferences or whatever to turn it off. When it happens, hit Ctrl+Alt+Del, and see what programs are active. One of them is probably the one which tries to dial out. |

![]() Have you recently installed and used BearShare? It's possible that this, or another file sharers' program has left some SpyWare or AdWare on your machine. Try hunting through the disk and especially the Registry for... 1. "SaveNow" (Strong possibility with BearShare!) 2. "OnFlow". (Less likely.) 3. "New.Net" (This is a strong possibility!) I had BearShare for around 8 minutes (no joke!) and uninstalled it with CleanSweep Deluxe and even that had left behind some SpyWare. Go to your Internet Options, in IE5, and select the "Connections" tab. Make sure you have selected "Never dial a connection." That ought to stop any unwanted dialling up, for now. Then... I URGE YOU TO GO AND DOWNLOAD AND USE... "AdAware4.6". It found the "New.Net" SpyWare and the "SaveNow" gremlin along with it, on my machine, in seconds. Then it killed them! (Sometimes, these SpyWare/AdWare programs sit very easily located, apparently dormant, ostensibly ours to start up should we wish to - but, I prefer not to trust them at all, personally. I think it must be an individual's choice.) Anyway...since then, I've returned to the Internet Options and re-allowed dialling up of connections and it no longer happens. AdAware4.6 is a good piece of kit to have around. I hope that this has been of some use to you.
