Question Downloading speeds on Gnotella

I'm really bad with computers, and I'm having trouble understanding the different speeds on Gnotella. I have aregular slow 48000 modem. How can I get the fastest download, ie should I download from people that have cable modems or T3 etc..also, the speeds that are listed..do I go for the higher number of Bps or what? I'd appreciate anyone's help on this.

EXACTLY!!!
The faster the speed is, the faster is the download. Well, normally it SHOULD be. But, the speed can be slow though there is a fast speed displayed. A reason for that could be that many people have entered a wrong connection speed into their gnutella program. You just have to search for a fast download...

One trick that I use when I'm downloading files from unknown users is to stick to those that say they have T1/T3 or faster. I then choose a few files from those particular users, and whichever one downloads the quickest, I keep. The rest I abort, but hold on to just in case. ;o)

I've got a slow modem also and just spent all weekend (50+ hours!!) downloading over 600 MB of information I've needed for about 7 years. But it SOOOO worth the time involved!

I'd also recommend looking for an inexpensive DSL modem. There are a places where you can get free service, although paying for it may be worth the price. ) It would have taken less than 2 hours to download all of that good stuff! LOL!

I have a DSL connection and have downloaded about 30 songs thus far using gnotella. The fastest download speed I have noticed so far have been about 10kps. Do any of you ever get nearer 1mps using this? On napster I would often complete a transfer of a 5 minute song in 30 seconds. With gnotella so far it takes an average of 10 minutes. Is there any way of tweaking this that I'm not aware of? thx.
