Default Node Addresses

I'm using Gnucleus. The only node address I connect to is router.limewire.com. Is that typical? Are there other static addresses I can add?

I don’t know what’s normal for Gnucleus, but here is a list of Host Catches like “router.limewire.com” that you can add:

gnutella.hostscache.com
connect1.gnutellanet.com
connect2.gnutellanet.com
connect3.gnutellanet.com
connect4.gnutellanet.com
connect5.gnutellanet.com
gnotella.fileflash.com
public.bearshare.net
connect1.bearshare.net
connect2.bearshare.net
connect3.bearshare.net

It would be a good idea to ping these and select the best ones, the last time I pinged router.limewire.com it returned “Unknown host”.

Smile More host adresses

Thanks for posting these hosts, I have been looking for a list of further hosts to attach to. I cannot find a full list. The hosts you have given, do you need to put the port number on the end and also if a host is down or slow, will this slow the whole client down trying to reach them?

SI

This list is a composite of all the Gnutella host caches lists I had ever found (that still work). The port number for all of these is 6346 (this is the default port # for most of Gnutella). Different clients respond differently to down or slow hosts. Some clients (like XoloX) only accept numerical IP’s.

To check the connection speed and recover the numerical IP of the hostscaches on this list ping the address in the command line. To do this in windows goto the windows start button, then the Run tab, then type command, then type (at the prompt “C:\WINDOWS\Desktop>”) ping gnutella.hostscache.com
If an Average = 50ms (milli-seconds) or less it’s fast, below 10ms is super fast.
If it says Unknown host, or timed out then don’t waste your time with it.
When you ping these don’t have your browser open or any share programs running, other Internet use will distort your results.
The results you receive will change daily.
You don’t need the port # to ping test them.

Here are two more hostcaches that “Request timed out” last time I tried them (they may work better in your area):

gnet2.ath.cx
gnutella-again.hostscache.com

Here are three more that returned “Unknown host” (they may one day start working again):

connect6.gnutellanet.com
connect7.gnutellanet.com
router.limewire.com

Default 3 connections?

ok, may be a stupid question, but I can't ever seem to get more than three connections.

I was told by someone that you must have five connections, in order to be able to download items - but as I have said I can only ever get three?

I have updated my list of servers to:

gnutella.hostscache.com
connect1.gnutellanet.com
connect2.gnutellanet.com
connect3.gnutellanet.com
connect4.gnutellanet.com
connect5.gnutellanet.com
gnotella.fileflash.com
public.bearshare.net
connect1.bearshare.net
connect2.bearshare.net
connect3.bearshare.net

but always get the message "waiting more hosts needed" when I try to download something?

any help with this would be greatly appreciated,

james

[ok, may be a stupid question, but I can't ever seem to get more than three connections.]

As long as you mean '3 connections to ultrapeers' this would be the same here. I have wondered for myself, though.

[I was told by someone that you must have five connections, in order to be able to download items - but as I have said I can only ever get three?]
Definitely not true. In the extremest case even one connection would be enough to find some files and download them.

[but always get the message "waiting more hosts needed" when I try to download something]
Well, you will get this message when the server you are trying to download from does not respond in time; the most common cause for this is (I think) when the server is firewalled (push request) and does not 'push' in time.

Sadly, this is a problem you cannot mend, as there are many people out there giving either a damn about sharing or are technically not able to configure their firewall right.

Greetings...

Can you point to somewhere that tells how to configure a firewall?
