Default Gnucleus 1.8.3 problem

When I upgraded to 1.8.3, I got a Microsoft Visual C++ error saying that the application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. I tried several times, with the same results. I finally reverted back to 1.8.2 and it worked again.

I later tried to re-update to 1.8.3 with the same results. Downgrading back to 1.8.2 miraculously made everything work again.

By the way, my OS is Windows XP (NT 5.1) Home Edition.

Here's a screen shot:

I also get such an error after some time on a Win2k machine.

With all that crap running (see your lower right corner) it's no wonder windows crashes all the time. Why do you think windows can handle anything more than one task at a time?

Windows XP hasn't crashed a single time since I got it in November, 2001 (Windows 98 and ME crashed, on average, twice a day) and it's very rare for any app to crash. This is obviously a Gnucleus error (as far as I can tell, it's a user-raised exception, not a crash; but I'm not too familiar with C++).

And I don't have that much running in my system tray: Mozilla, Gnucleus, Dynamic DNS updater, HTTP and mail servers, download manager, instant messenger, and sound-playback controls.

It may be a bit ironic that Gnucleus continues to run until I push "OK", but it doesn't even open in compatibility mode.

Does anybody know why this is happening and/or if it will be fixed in future versions?

So when is too much? 200 things running? What is with you people? The OS can't handle this!

Too much is things that I don't use regualrly. Eight (8) things isn't that much.

Actually, I was perhaps a little ambigous before. Apache (HTTP server) and Windows Messenger are actually services that provide an icon to open/control them.

Further, most of these things require little memory. Mozilla is the biggest, as it acts like IE (loads itself into memory to start faster). Besides, these apps aren't processing the slew of GUI messages that they would be if all things were open when they're in the system tray.

Not to seem rude, but maybe the reason you can't run more than one thing at a time is a hardware problem. Or maybe you haven't upgraded Windows in years and think that newer versions differ in name only. Or maybe you use Linux or similar and have an exaggerated view of Windows. Or, most likely, you're a troll.

BTW, these futile flames you're throwing aren't exactly related to my query.

Let's all relax and settle down guys, right?

Zooplah, I am running Gnucleus 1.8.3 and have had none of the problems you are experiencing. I'm running 2000 Pro SP2.

Have you made any posts on this problem in the Gnucleus.Net forums?

Default Oooops

hey, Zooplah...

It just happened to me.
I had been on for about 8 hours and uploaded about 80 files.
I had someone going after a 16MB file at .017KBs with hours and hours to go and huge queues building for other things. I normally have 0.50 as a cut-off for upload speeds but it didn't work...... I 'removed' the download and whammo, got the same screen in the language of 2000 Pro.
You are not alone.

Again, same here (fingers crossed).
I have been back on now for about 14 hours and all seems to be 'normal'.
