problem when isp disconnects hi i have installed gnucleus 1.8.3.0 and am very happy with it but i have a minor problem which is when my isp disconnects me(every 2hours) and gnucleus is downloading i get about 15 dun/connection windows open, can i stop this or has anyone else experienced this? thanks |
if you are dun why don't you jsut turn it off? |
Do you have your internet options set up to dial up when an internet connection is not present? |
hi thanks for the replies Quote:
this scenario happens when i set up gnucleus downloading and i leave the puter come back to it when i know i am going to have reconnect and instaed of clicking connect in one dial up box i have about 15 filling up the taskbar. tshdos thanks for the suggestion in internet options it is not set up to dial when an internet connection is not present any more ideas as when this happens it tends to really slow the computer down and sometimes i have to reboot to restore normal performance? thanks |
Well, if you ain't dun with it, then hurry up 'cause someone else might want to use it! I think tshdos meant to say do you have WINDOWS set to dial the ISP whenever a program requests a internet connection? And to further clarify, if you just turned on your machine and then start your browser and try to access yahoo.com, does WINDOWS start dialing the phone or do you get a error where the browser says it can't reach yahoo? I would say the answer is yes it is set to auto dial, and Gnucleus is requesting a net connection 15 times or more and that is why you see this. Try turning that off. What did I see a setting in that says "let this program dial up the internet for you" or something like that? What ever happened to "dunce" (a program)? |
hi thanks for the suggestion, will try that m |
What to do I think all you should have to do is make sure the "Dial whenever a network connection is not present" box is checked. When the connect dialog pops up, make sure you have it set to save your password and/or automatically re-dial and all that bullshit. It should automatically re-dial whenever it needs to then. Dunce was a great program back in the day, but it's kinda outlived it's usefulness now. Windows DUN now pretty much does everything Dunce used to do. As a result, Dunce hasn't been developed in over 5 years, and their website says it only works on Wi***, and IE versions pre-4.0  http://www.vecdev.com/dunce.html |
