Smile Good software

I have been using various gnutella clients for a while now and since the last release of Gnotella I decided to find a better one, and I've found it!!

Gnucleus is by far the fastest smallest gnutella software I've used it also has a great feature list and does most of it really well!!

It would be nice if it were a little more stable but I guess that is the price you pay for open source.

I have a few suggestions if anyone who counts is listening

how about being able to add to files with different file names which are obviously the same file (same size) into the same download jod so that all hosts could be used in the download.

Did I explain that all right?

let me try again example:

you search for spears oops mp3

you get:

Britney Spears - oops.mp3 4968KB
Britney Spears - opps I did it again.mp3 4968KB

you start to download from one but the host disappears, wouldn't it be nice if you could continue the ownload from the other host?

I don't think this should be automatic but an option to do this would be good.

The search grouping you describe is already done by gnucleus! the name you see is just the name of the first file in the list. You can actually change how grouping works in the preferences.

What worries me though is this, 'the price you pay for open source.' who is giving people the impression that open-source is unstable? if anything open-source should be the most stable since the code is open the public to be analyzed.

Speaking as the developer of gnucleus, I do most of it myself, and get few submissions for stability fixes. but I can only assume if Gnucleus gets a little bit bigger then more people will be finding bugs that crash the program and hence make it stronger.

if you'd like to 'pay' me for my software, then find a bug, or send me a feature addition or help me test betas. that's pay enough.

I didn't mean to put open source down, I think it is a great concept and the way forward for software in general!

All I meant was that with open source projects often there are a lot more releases and features get implemented before they are really stable. As a project goes on it gets better and better and I thank all open source delevlopers for the work they put in!
I only wish I had the skills to actually help out.

Here's some possible bugs.

I don't know if it is a real bug or just a random event but it seems that Gnucleus sometimes crashes when you change the maximum number of files to download whilst more than that number are downloading.

Also Gnucleus doesn't handel being cut off on a dailup connection very well I have seen it start hundereds of dailup boxes at one.

Does Gnucleus group files with a different name but the same size together? thanks for the tip. Is it very small differances in size (that don't show up in KB) that cause files to be dispalyed seperatly when as in the example I gave?
