"I seem to have got it to run smoothly by blocking ports 80, and 6660-7000 (irc)"

This worked for me, too. Previously, Gnucleus was crashing on my Windows 2000 Professional system whenever my firewall (AtGuard) was running. Whenever the firewall was disabled, Gnucleus worked OK.

Anyone have a list of the ports and inbound/outbound permissions Gnucleus needs in order to function properly?

port 80 outbound to "evolve", the various IRC ports out to connect to IRC servers, inbound 113 for ident

I block the evolve IP, block all IRC ports even when they overlap some Gnutella hosts... And of course block ident (that goes without saying !)

As far as I'm concerned it's not a P2P servants concern to attempt *any* un-authorized connections

Granted this isn't a spyware infested P2P (as some are) however I have no interest in IRC (ident is a security breach) and want full manual control over upgrading (I upgrade via anonymous proxies - a direct connection to any specific IP is also a security breach in our intranet)

I've went as far as removing all the IRC servers and deleting the list it keeps...

It doesn't *need* to connect to anything to not crash - Oasis is almost exactly like it and it doesn't...

I used v 1.35 but switched to Oasis after seeing it's more stable. I still would like an answer on what Oasis is.

(it appears to be almost exactly the same yet has a few features 1.35 doesn't have)

Oasis is built on an older gnucleus code base. Something in the new release really screwed with win2k.
