Default dazed and confused

I have used gnucleus for sometime and had no problems connecting and using it. I have version 2.0.2.0 right now. However, lately it connects for a short time and then I lose the connection and it won't reconnect. I keep getting an upgrade message lately and it says it's downloading files, but I'm not connected as it's doing this and it goes nowhere. I know nothing of setting things up in the configure section and when I read some posts of ports, nodes, etc. I just got dazed and confused. Can someone help me figure out what is going on in the simplest of terms that someone as unkowledgeable as me can understand? Thank you.
