gnucleus connect Having run Gnucleus since almost its inception on platforms from 486 to win 2k it is of the deepest regret that I have to finally give up. On my current win 2k computer Gnucleus will not - not - connect under any circumstances. This, as in so many things in America today, is as though an oldest friend has passed away. Frostwire lights right off right from install, but who wants Frostwire? No offense to Frostwire, but Gnuleus is straightforward, simple to operate and a very calm GUI. The only thing is, Frostwire works and Gnuleus does not. I have tried the advice in every sticky, every thread and every download. I have tried every fix I can imagine from the norm to totally bizarre. Nothing works. I really wish that Gnuleus programmers would concentrate at least a little attention on something as basic as connecting to the net, but prehaps the esoteric is more important. I don't know. All I know is one of my oldest friends from ther old - some might say real - computer world is gone. How truly sad. Truly sad. What a drag. |

The development of this application has stopped long ago... Sorry to disappoint you... And with the aging code, some networking features that have changed since the release of your version of Gnucleus are no longer supported by other clients, which makes connecting to the networks more difficult... To help you at least a bit: AFAIK, Gnucleus (GnucDNA 1.1.1.6) connects to more than one network. It certainly connects to Gnutella 1 and Gnutella 2. So which network does it not connect to anymore? If you would like to have a decent application with the ability to use several networks, you may want to try out Shareaza. It connects to Gnutella, Gnutella 2 and eDonkey. Torrent downloads are also possible... And Shareaza is certainly better than Gnucleus and Frostwire (once you configurated it correctly; see this install guide for how to do this). greetings, OldDeath

The best thing that could possibly happen is that sb updates the GnucDNA code to support the latest features. Combined with the code of the GnucDNA based clients, they could be recompiled and would all be able to connect just fine...

andrew No, actually. I'm afraid I am a little behind and have missed a couple of things. I'm really just an old Gnucleus type. I finally did connect through sheer persistence and Gnucleus works just fine. I installed and uninstalled the program 2.0.2.0 seven or eight times and finally it went through. I never did try Shareaza. Unfortuately I am not a programmer so I can't contribute to Gnucleus but I sure wish someone could. It's a really fine program and I hate to see it fading away. To amend my ststement about Frostwire - that diid not come out the way I wanted it - there is nothing wrong with Frostwire per se, it too is an excellent program that works splendidly. I just find the GUI so busy as to be fatiguing. Gnucleus' GUI is very calm and straightforward and I like that. Thanks for the reply. Moln |
