How to update client version?

Hi!

I tried installing the gtk-Gnutella client from the Ubuntu Software Center but apparently it's an old client version: 1.0.1-1. How do I update?

I found a "gtk-gnutella-1.1.8.tar.bz2" compressed file and don't know what do with it. Does it mean it has to be recompiled or something? Is there another way to do this? Right now I'm running gtk-Gnutella.exe using Wine which is kinda unstable and slow.
