Multi-share download folder with several clients? Hi, Running Debian Sarge, started using GTK-Gnutella yesterday, and am very impressed. I feel that most of my doubts will be resolved by reading the corresponding FAQ, but I do have one question about the possibility of sharing a download folder between different client programs. Let me explain: I often use WinMX to download under Linux (thru Wine), as well as aMule. What I am wondering is how I can avoid having duplicated downloads in the d/l. temp or shared folders of these different clients. It reminds me of when I stopped using Kazaa, even the lite version, and wanted to migrate the partially downloaded files to WinMX. Any ideas? TIA Agustín |
You can't resume a Gtk-Gnutella download with WinMX or vice-versa. Gtk-Gnutella will not overwrite existing files, it will create an alternate filename but you can't prevent it to start downloads this way. Gtk-Gnutella won't download any file you already share (of course, the filename doesn't matter but the contents i.e., the SHA1). You can, however, add the file to ~/.gtk-gnutella/done.sha1 or ~/.gtk-gnutella/done.namesize to prevent that it (re-)downloads the given file. You could use a simple script to add the filenames from your WinMX downloads to one of these files. Edit these files only when Gtk-Gnutella is not running, otherwise, changes to them might be lost/ignored. |
This is as good as I hoped fo, really, because at least this way I can keep all the files properly grouped. Thanks Agustin |
