Is the Gnutella network down? I do not seem to be able to download anymore, or it takes for eeeeeeeeever for gtk-gnutella to find a single active host/server on the network. I use gtk-Gnutella 0.96..5. Same problem w/ Phex. A friend of mine uses Aquisition on his Mac and has the same problem. Is there something wrong w/ the Gnutella network? |
The network is working as well as ever here with LimeWire 4.18.8. Acq may be an older version, since I haven't noticed updates for a while. Did you check the Phex forums? |
You're right. I tried Limewire, and that's very fast! This trikes me as very odd because I was under the impression that gnutella = gnutela. That is, independent of it's client/frontend. Strange isn't it? Any idea why gtk-Gnutella doesn't work well anymore? It must have something tot do w/ the serverlist/hosts.... |
I don't know, but one thing is sure: Gnutella = Gnutella, but the gnutella access is not the gnutella access... very old clients use an other handshake than the actual ones, making it very difficult to connect. Since I don't know gtk-Gnutella very well, I cannot say if this applies to your sittuation, so I could be 100% wrong. |
But yes, as the gnutella network develops, those clients that refuse to update along with it & use techniques that are now outside of the gnutella protocol/legal techniques are not allowed to be connected to due to their aggressive techniques. Less ultrapeers for them would make it very difficult for them to connect. Which makes me wonder why some clients are so stubborn to spend a little time to update accordingly. Both LW & FrostWire had gnutella connection issues themselves each at stages over past year & half, due to various reasons. I could say more but perhaps not necessary, .. a simple connection problems search will find the reason. ;) Was getting over 700 KB/s a couple days ago with downloads with LW, my connection is not as fast as some people's. |

I'll tell my Apple Mac friend that he needs to update his Aquisition version (he even, aaaarrrggghhh, paid for it, I mean: paying for a simple gnutella client???? wtf???). But then again I might not because I hate Mac's and I'd rather see their users suffer. Hah ah. Just kiddin'. ;) |
