If you mean burning on a DVD for a DVD player, that might be because the movie is too long, or because you downloaded DRM crippled content (which you shouldn't ever do).

A first step to avoiding that is activating the scam file filter (in the search pane) which hides most DRM crippled files, and the second is to doublecheck, if your local copyright laws allow you to download the files (you can find some legally downloadeable material at
http://wiki.phex.org/Free_and_Legal_Content

The third is to have a look at the website of your burning program.

Can you play the files in your computer?

Then you might have downloaded crippled files.

Besides: Please don't use Phex for infringing copyrights. Filesharing is far more than just getting proprietary files, for example there's a great and lively anime music video scene in Gnutella (just try to search for "AMV"), and there's an ever growing pool of legally downloadeable and shareable material:

http://wiki.phex.org/Free_and_Legal_Content

These will help establishing p2p even more and will help us give you the best possible filesharing experience.

Best wishes,
Arne

Crippled files means files with digital restrictions management.

Windows plays them (and mediaplayer might well call home and tell someone what you just watched), but they often can't be read by normal dvd players.

This is the case for many wmv-files (Windows Media Video).

Infos: http://www.eff.org/IP/DRM/

Another reason why they don't play could be that they are simply broken but your movieplayer is able to correct the errors, while the dvd-player can't.

And still another reason could be, that your dvd player just can't play the format.

How do you convert them for your dvd-player?

That it's mostly new releases can mean that it's more probable that you get intentionally broken versions or crippled files.

Best wishes,
Arne

They could also just be damaged by broken download-programs, but yet, it's most probable that tehy were intentionally damaged and that the sharer of that file just didn't realize it yet (or is an active spammer or had his computer taken over by a trojan and is now being abused to spam the network for some media company - another reason to keep the virus scanner up to date).

*gg* nice poem

But to be honest: I don't miss direct TV that much

It would be nice, though, if all TV stations would extend their service into p2p and offer ad-supported TV-series in p2p (without DRM, naturally).

Maybe we'll someday be able to force the public TV-Stations in Germany to allow us to share what they publish, because we do already pay for our internet access to fund public TV.

And if I pay for it, I want to be able to access it any way possible
