Proxy question I'm using an ssh tunnel as a socks5 proxy through a firewall. Everything is working fine with my exported external IP address but I was wondering if there's a way to export my external host name rather than IP. The other end of the tunnel uses a dynamic address that changes every few days. If I could specify the dyndns.org host name of the ssh server that would be great. Otherwise I have to change my phex config every time the IP changes. |
Do you need to export your IP? Normally Phex shoulöd find the IP itself from replies of other Gnutella nodes. Could you try if it works when you just omit the external IP address? (the ssh tunnel effectively offers a local proxy, am I right in that?) |

That's great! Have fun with Phex! And if you should have the chance, why don't you spread the word - or directly write a guide for using Phex over an SSH tunnel? :) |

Is there a wiki where such a document should be posted? |
I think that there are still many people who didn't yet try using SSH as proxy, but who'd like to do so. A wiki is at http://wiki.phex.org You could either create a new page or write the guide in Advanced Questions (depending on its length :) ). -> http://www.phex.org/wiki/index.php/Advanced_Questions |
