I have recently become a victim of this.

For the last week I have been unable to connect, and can't figure out why.

We have 2 computers here, both running through the same wireless router. Both computers have the same settings, but mine won't connect!!

I have run Beardiag, but the results are complete gibberish. But they are virtually identical for both machines (the only difference being the part about operating systems/computer specs etc)

It makes no sense why 1 machine won't connect, yet the other has no problems.

I have tried the port forwarding suggestions, the resetting of the router suggestion, and pretty much everything else that these forums (and others) suggest.

In the end I decided to back up all my files, reformat my drive, and reinstall windows and the bearshare program (in case there was a virus or something I could not detect on my system), but still it just says 'hosts not connected'.......

This is driving me crazy. Does anyone have a definitive answer as to why this is happening????

Is there a solution????

Same problem here...

Both my laptop and desktop were doing fine.
I had to restore my desktop and I re-installed Bearshare Lite.
It always has the "not connected" red light on top.
On my laptop, which I haven't restored is still working fine.
To me it seems that this problem occurs when you re install the program.

why don't you try reading a more current post on this subject?

hmmmmmmm?

The reason why bearshare isn't connecting is because private1.bearshare.net is down so he can't update his hosts.

and if he did a little searching of the forums he might find that if he just lets it try for a while it will get connected....it does for me...

Hey, 'Plucker', how long has this prob with BS been going on?
Any and all info would be much appreciated.

And, what about the other BS.net addresses?

Ciao big guy and beware the sheilas...

I've been noticing it for about a year now I think...it happens when I haven't used BS in a couple of weeks...sometimes it was definitely because of PG@ blocking the bearshare.net IP addy (which I FINALLY figured out and unblocked that IP for a few minutes) and sometimes its because a new list can't be found..

either way I've gone for forced UP mode and notice that in that setup it eventually gets connected to mostly LW hosts, then as its able to find BS peers via the LW connections and upon next startup (as long as that startup is within a day or so) will usually get connected immediately and to mostly BS peers....I haven't had to change my connect.txt file as of yet, though I did try it out once and it did work....

Bearshare will not connect - red light no hosts - fixed

I had the same problem and this fixed it for me (from another forum)....

You probably need a fresh host cache. Shut down BearShare and unzip this into C:\Program Files\BearShare\db\

The exact same link is already posted in several places on this forum. :) But assistance for other users is always appreciated. Since some do not bother to search for a solution by themselves. ;)
