Default bearshare 5.2.5.1 connects less and less

Over the last several months my version of bearshare lite 5.2.5.1 has been having a harder and harder time connecting to the network. It's to the point now that it hardly ever connects. I downloaded the updated cache files listed in another thread, but those don't help. As a test, I installed that beta release of bearshare that was suggested and it will connect to the network if I use the "forced ultrakeeper" option in the setup. Unfortunately version 5.2.5.1 does not have that option available(at least not anywhere i can find). I would love to get 5.2.5.1 working again, so I don't have to play around with that starter program that resets the system clock back to 2005 for 10 seconds every time you run bearshare. Has anyone found a way to get version 5.2.5.1 to reliably connect or is it a lost cause?

Thanks,
Bob

I think it is more or less lost cause to make BearShare Lite 5.2.5.1 to connect...You see BearShare Lite 5.2.5.1 was not a Free Peers release, but the RIA friendly company MusicLab LLC...The same goes for every version off BearShare above 5.2.x.x is no good to use...The only BearShare version 5 i like is the beta hosted here on the forum...But i use BearShare 4.7.0 and have no connection probs at all, because it is a Free Peers Release and work great for me so fare...The reason i don't use BearShare beta from this forum is the BearShare start utility is not working for my pc, so i have to manually sett back the time for it to start-i guess im lacy...So i find the version 4.7.0 and used it since...

I found an entry in the freepeers.ini file, "bForcedUltrapeer = YES". That is what is allowing the beta version to still connect and not the released version 5.2.5.1. If I turn off the forced ultrakeeper than the beta can't connect anymore either. I tried setting that flag in the released version, but it looks like only the beta version actually checks for that flag, because even with that set the released version is not going into ultrakeeper mode or connection to the network. The setup screen for the beta version says debug only for the forced ultrakeeper options, so the code for it was probably removed from the final release. I guess I should be happy to have a working free version of bearshare again, but I don't have a very high speed internet connection, so I was hoping not to have to be an ultrakeeper just to connect.
