How many hosts should I see under statistics?

I just thought I should ask, as I currently only see 36. I'm not an ultrapeer, so that may change some things, but it does seem like an unusually low number to me.

At the beginning the number is always low... when you are connected longer, it happens that some people disconnect, if these are hosts which are connected with you you loose also all hosts which are connected with this host too...

Yes this number is low but you should not worry, wait a few minutes and the number will go up!

Well, been running for an hour and a half... and it's up to

25!

Wait, that's down. Is this unusual?
I run on a decent cable connections, and I set it to keep 6 connections up (and reset it every time I start it up). Limewire 2.5.3.
Oh, one thing that could be skewing it, is that currently all the hosts I'm connected to are Morpheus clients. Could that explain it?

Ok, I kicked the Morpheus connections, and now two of them are limewire, and my hosts have gone up to almost 300.
I don't know whether this actually affects searching, but I thought it was an interesting query.

Morpheus blocks our hostcount in order to save some bandwidth. Even if you drop all the morpheus connections you have, you still will not see an accurate hostcount because some of the LimeWire clients you are connected to will be connected to morpheus clients.

Interesting, good to know.
How do the searches compare? Is there any difference between having Limewire or Morpheus ultrapeers?
The search variety seems to have decreased in the past few months, would this be a possible cause? I would have thought having Morpheus users on the network would have added to the material available.

I believe Morpheus ultrapeers only block leaf nodes from pongs. I'm not connecting to Morpheus ultrapeers at all (modified my limewire slightly) and I'm usually seeing about 1,000 - 2,000 hosts in my statistics window which is about the number of hosts I saw before the advent of Morpheus.

I don't think it's necessary for LimeWire leaf nodes to connect to Morpheus Ultrapeers at all. Why not make LimeWire leaf nodes strongly prefer LimeWire ultrapeers??

Hmm, maybe just a strong dislike for Morpheus would be better. Bearshare and Gnucleus have some pretty solid connections, It's just morph that blows.

Dear Krieger88

Any chance of making your Morpheus hating "modified" version of Limewire publically available ? You'd have tens of thousands of adoring fans licking your boots if you did !!!

I don't know. I might but I'd have to repackage it first... Maybe in the next few days.
