Default LimeWire 2.5.5 Beta

LimeWire 2.5.5 Beta is now available from our web site at:

http://www.limewire.com/index.jsp/download_beta

The pro version of the beta is also, as always, available from your pro download page.

This version fixes a number of bugs from LimeWire 2.5.4, and it should be significantly more stable as a result. It also adds HTTP "HEAD" requests to all uploaders once your download has completed. This notifies those uploaders of all new alternate locations for the file that the downloader has discovered during the download process, allowing those uploaders to report the new alternate locations to others on the network. 2.5.5, then, will propagate the "download mesh" significantly more than previous versions.

Thanks everyone!

First thanks for continuing to improve your product - one of my favorites. Once gripe though ... since moving to 2.5.x every install has blown away my previous preferences... which sucks since I have several blocked IPs etc. can you guys have a look at that... or at least publish a method of saving pref's so I do not have to re-enter every time? thanks!

You could make a backup copy of your limewire.props file. I don't know where it's located on windows but all the options, including blocked ips and keywords are there-in contained.

That's not good, considering that the new Windows installer is designed not to blow away your old props file. You're on Windows, right? The versions before this would simply place a bland limewire.props in the new install directory, but the newer windows installers are designed to detect where your previous limewire.props was stored and copy it over to your new directory. This does not happen for you, though? This has only been in the code for 2.5.x versions -- so it will only pick up limewire.props files from previous 2.5.x installs.

Thanks.

When ever I open Limewire. It says "Checking for Updates" but it does not find the 2.5.5 version? is this because its 2.5.5 Beta?

Well speak of the devil!!! - I just loaded 2.5.5 and it did indeed preserve my previous props. I had been having this problem with all of the other incremental 2.5.x updates but this one is SWEET!!!

Thanks

Hey, no problem. That's been one of my many little pet projects over the last couple of weeks. I did fix some bugs with it for 2.5.5, so that's probably why it's fixed.

On the update issue, we definitely don't turn on the update for any betas. In fact, we often leave the update off even for official releases. This is because we release so often, that we only update people to really stable releases and to releases with really nice new features. Otherwise, the update messages would just get annoying.

This is going live momentarily. Thanks to everyone for the feedback!
