Question Connections in 2.7.3

Hi all.....

I figured I'd post this in Beta rather than Connections...

I’ve noticed an interesting difference regarding connections in 2.7.3

My connections window shows that I am now connecting to many, many leafs in addition to ultrapeers!
Prior to 2.7.3 I always connected to 3 ultrapeers… I never saw a single leaf in the connections.
Now I see approx. 3 ultrapeers, but in addition, there’s got to be at least 20 to 30 leaf connections that come and go… at times, so many as to even cause a scroll bar in the connections window!!!!

As mentioned, I never saw anything like this in versions prior to 2.7.3… I’m wondering what may be causing the difference?

Any explanation or insight would be much appreciated!

Thanks

It sounds like you are connecting as an ultrapeer. Look at the bottom of your connection screen and it will tell you.

If you just added a high speed connection or did not check the box to decline acting as an ultrapeer that might explain why this is the first time you noticed it. I connect as an ultrapeer about half the time.

Question

Thanks Norm, appreciate the suggestions.... but I'm still confused.

I'm quite sure I have always connected as an ultrapeer (also prior to 2.7.3).... bottom of my connections window consistantly shows ultrapeer each time I connect.... as it consistantly did prior to 2.7.3

I have also never checked the "decline connecting as ultrapeer" checkbox.... so there should be no differences in my environment parameters between 2.7.3 and 2.7.1

hmmmm...

Rutro,

I can't explain it -- Anytime I connect as a "leaf" I will have three ultrapeer connections. If I connect as an ultrapeer I always have a full screen of mostly leaf connections with a few ultrapeers mixed in.

Question Yes, unexplainable....

Thanks again Norm...

Yeah sorta weird huh... its almost as though in versions prior to 2.7.3, I was never truly connecting as an ultrapeer, even though the connections window has always shown me as one!

Sounds like my connections are now behaving like yours.... just curious to confirm that this is normal behavior.

When it says Ultrapeer at the bottom of the Connections screen that means you are capable of becoming an ultrapeer. If the network needs ultrapeers then you'll become one and you'll get the added leaf connections. If there are enough ultrapeers then your capability hasn't changed but you just won't connect as an ultrapeer.

Hmmmm.... I see.... interesting!

I was of the understanding that the connections window would show ultrapeer at bottom ONLY if I was actually connected as an ultrapeer!

Threrefore, I guess the only way I can know if I am an ultrapeer or not, is by the presence of the leafs on the connection screen.

Thanks much for the clarification.

Rutro:

My connection starts with the notation as "ultrapeer" then if the network doesn't need ultrapeers my notation switches to "leaf".

It might be different in other versions. I really don't know. I am using 2.7.0

Thanks Norm....

My notation has always been, and is consistantly "ultrapeer".... even in past versions.

I guess LimeWire likes my resources!
