Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

Unhappy 10.2.5 + 2.9.8 crashes....

iMac DV, 450 hz, 320 ram, OS10.2.5 (very recent update from 10.2.4), Limewire 2.9.8

2.9.8 has run very well using 10.2.4, decent search results, 4star download success about 20-35 % of attempts, 3 star success less tha 2 %....

But when I updated to 10.2.5, LW crashes if I have more than 3 or 4 search windows open, BUT... it doesn't seem to be directly related to that, but it seems that if there are more than a few things going on, ie, searchs+downloads+uploads the whole thing just quits.... my habits haven't changed from before...

example... I would have up to10-12 search requess going, 4-10 downloads going, 4-6 uploads.... I would add new search requess as I went along (or I would refresh searches by placing cursor on search name +aplle key + mouse to get "repeat search") while using 10.2.4 we just happily went along....

The minute I updated to 10.2.5.... crashes, crashes crashes... ok it would quit...

How do I un-install the 10.2.5 update???

if it works.... don't fix ANYTHING!!!

Ouch! I ran the 10.2.5 update, and was worried about the warning on the update read me when it warned about problems with modified systems. Right after I installed though, I restarted in safe boot and repaired permissions. I'm running Acquisition right now (its core is the same as 2.9.8) with no problems. Any chance you ran into some of the problems expected in the read me?

Post back, and I'll reinstall 2.9.8 if necessary and we could compare.

Limewire 2.9.8 Pro
Mac OSX 10.2.5
PBG4 667 Mhz / 1GB / 60GB

My Shared, Saved, and Incomplete folders are all on a partition separate from my Home/boot partition, where LMP 298 lives.

Since upgrading to 2.9.8 Pro, which occurred just before, or after, installing OSX 10.2.5,

My LimeWire Library has become fragile. This was never an issue before.

LimeWire Pro 2.9.8 decides to unexpectedly quit. Never before, I dunno why.

That, or any OTHER crash, and upon re-login/reboot/or just relaunch of LimeWire Pro 2.9.8, and it forgets the entire library in the Search Queue.

Forcing me to select all Library and Resume, which works, but takes forever.

Worse, any/all incomplete downloads never resume as they did before my upgrades (above). Only new searches / new selected downloads work at all. This includes new incompletes. Since upgrading, these, too, never resume on their own.

I encourage them by repeating the same search again and again, and clicking 'resume'.

But, once LMP 2.9.8 'forgets' it's Library, its back to square one for every desired file.

LimeWire 2.9.8 Pro has unexpectedly quit repeatedly, and I've resumed the Library each time. Then I find ALL (prior) Searched files with downloaded Status bars of 'half-done' appear as 'virgins'.

Later, between successful runs of the same app LMP 298, but before unexpected quits, etc (normal day-to-day ops), I've still found that none of my half-done downloads self-resume, even when Search list results suggest it is obvious that they should.

This list of incompletes I trim daily, and also add to, daily.

Thanks in advance for any help,

-rockhaus

hi rockhaus
Those details take time to record--nice: looks like you've been watching this for a while too!

Sounds familiar. I just got up to find another "unexpectedly quit" message. I guess I'll send the LimeWire.crash.log to bugs@limewire.com. According to the console entries, it looks like LW 2.9.8 ran for about 3 hours while I slept before it crashed, so whatever caused the crash didn't depend on user activity.

Could you explain "it forgets the entire library in the Search Queue?" Right after I see a "could not move to library" error in the downloads section of the Search Pane, I switch to the Library Pane, and if the Incomplete folder is selected in the left column, the listing of incompletes in the main portion of the window (I call it the "list frame") has gone blank. I usually click on the refresh button to get the display of the incompletes back (in red type), but this doesn't always work. Selecting the "Shared" icon in the left column always displays the files being shared (in black). I have to be careful not to click refresh here, or LW will rehash the entire folder (listing turns red, takes a long time, and disrupts uploads I think). Is it your display of the "incomplete" folder that is forgotten?

No, it is the list of ALL downloads in the lower part of the Search tab. I haven't lost the 'Incompletes' list in the Library tab, but after selecting all and Resuming, I get the downloads list back, minus any progress.

After I launch completed downloads into their app, I kill them from the Downloads list, so it is the time spent on the partially completes that is never regained.

If those stop halfway through, or whatever, they never resume like in the past - whether I have to resume the incompletes in Library after a crash or not. So I have to Search for them again.

Thanks,

OK. I can make the downloads frame of the Search Pane disappear if I select all and click Kill Download--selecting all in the incompletes frame of the Library Pane brings them back and "awaiting". Haven't seen anything kill all the downloads by itself (did suspect losing all connections made all downloads show "could not move to library"), but 'Auto-clear Completed Downloads' is unchecked in prefs.

True. I'm hoping that the developments in partial file sharing might allow those incompletes to be finished in the future, but can't see how unless a byte map can be kept for incompletes. If the original shows up in a repeated search, those incompletes will often resume, but not after a crash. I'm guessing the downloads.dat file gets corrupted here, but don't know how to salvage it.

That's the new normal behaviour. trap_jaw explains it well here

After the last time restoring the downloads list by resuming all incompletes, my (new and old) incompletes in the downloads list are inexplicably resuming on their own again.

I didn't change a thing.

Glad, but strange.

However, now, since installing QTP6.2 & iTunes 4, LWP298's display is wiggin'.

It glitches in and out or becomes gobbledygook for a while, then just blinks.

No other app seems to be having memory or video display errors - even in the background, only LWP298 is wiggin'. Everything else is solid. LWP298 refuses to Hide, but when visibly stable, it minimizes and un-minimizes as gook, then clears up.

Extreme frustration.

WTF?
