Thanks for the input. We'll work on updating the FAQ, and we'll likely be a little more hands-on in the forums from now on -- we haven't been as involved for various reasons recently, but we should be more involved in the future. It's not out of intentional neglect -- you'll just have to believe me on the one!

Thanks again.

Excellent. How many more Beta versions will there be? Just a rough estimate would be nice, I know these things usually are not predetermined.

3.0.1 is looking really strong so far, so hopefully it will make it out of beta fairly soon. We're being a little more cautious with this one than normal because of the whole "3.0" thing, but I don't expect there to be more betas -- I expect 3.0.1 to go live, although I'm not sure when.

despite compression etc, running as an ultrapeer still reduces upload bandwidth a lot. for hosts with popular content, it seems to make sense to disable ultrapeer, especially considering the percentage of hosts running as ultrapeers nowadays. who's gonna serve files if everyone is busy being a hub?

as ultrapeer
49 hosts, all incoming
longest connection 41 minutes in 1 hour uptime
at the beginning, lots of non limewire hosts, but they all eroded away within 5 minutes
8.5 k gnutella upstream
5.2 k http upstream
7.0 k gnutella downstream
0.3 k http downstream

as leaf
4 ultrapeers
all limewire
many of them short-lived (less than 10 min)
0.1 k gnutella upstream
13.3 k http upstream
.4 k gnutella downstream
.3 k http downstream

Hmm...I spoke too soon when I said LW stopped quitting unexpectedly. It still is, even with the new beta. Perhaps it's a java thing, any idea?
