Default LimeWire 3.7.1 Beta!

The long-awaited beta release of LimeWire 3.7.1 is finallly available! This version includes a number of new features and updates, including:

- Support for international searches. Users can now search for and share files for all languages!
- Better connections. This version will monitor your connections and make sure that you stay connected, addressing the connection problems affecting so many users.
- A new search progress bar in each search tab that indicates the progress of your search.
- New button linking to the LimeWire MagnetMix site for promoting the use of the MAGNET protocol for efficient distribution of content on the Gnutella network.
- Fix for problem where new search results would deselect the selected result.
- The use of the Apache Jakarta Project's HttpClient open source program for making HTTP requests.
- The mp3 player can now play all bitrates and performs better.
- More fault-tolerant downloading.
- Improved efficiency of indexing between LimeWires and other clients.
- More efficient distribution of host information throughout the network.
- More robust firewall detection.
- Better statistics for connections.
- New Linux-style release cycle. All odd release numbers are now in the beta series (all 3.7.x versions will be betas), with full releases coming as even ".0" versions. So the next official LimeWire release will be LimeWire 3.8.0.

That's about it. If any beta testers have been experiencing connection problems, can you specify which ISP you're on? Thanks to everyone as always for their tremendous help testing the betas.

As always, the betas are available at:

For pro users, you can access the beta from your pro download page.

Thanks again.

Thumbs down Limeshop

Well it looks that you've included limeshop on mac osx basic.... beside the fact that mac people won't like it (who would ), it should'nt be THAT difficult to uninstall. I mean I trashed the lime prefpane, then I had to forcequit the process java process to empty the trash (Lw was quit previously). Now everytime I start LW the sh process is getting all the CPU it can, I have to force quit it. Shouldn't LW stop trying opening Limeshop when it isn't there anymore? That should be easy to uninstall so people technically orientated (those who complain on mac forums like macnn.com) won't bitch much about spyware introduced on mac (a first!) by LW. Expect much bitching on that when that news gets well spread (and the limeshop shouldn't take so much cpu cycles doing nothing BTW).
(Edit: I launched LW another time and this time the process sh wasn't lauched: good!)

On an other matter, I tried a couple of magnet links and right after I killed them. Now every time I open LW, these files go in the download window, which is pretty annoying.

Also I tried French caracters searching on a lan (two LW connected by Rendez-vous) and it works very well. A definite + for me.

All for now
Ciao

Default Shareaza

Salut Blackbird, I tried in UP this morning, and it does it again. You just have to get a Shareaza leaf.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'll keep an eye out for the Shareaza leaf issue. On the LimeShop front, we'll definitely make sure to not eat any CPU if you've manually removed it. -- thanks for pointing it out.

We'll also look at the magnet issue.

LimeWire 3.7.x also decreases the amount of time spent in the 'Saving File' state of downloading. Mac Classic users had been mentioning that the 'Verifying File' and 'Saving File' states took too long. Please let us know if this has fixed atleast part of the problem.

Thanks.

Well, to answer your questions.

I pulled out my old original ibook running OS 9.2.2. Downloaded the 3.7 MB snoodsetup.exe file (magnet hosted). The verification process took a long time. Virtually no time for saving. I accounted this to the ibook being 300mghz.

For comparison, running classic on my current system, it took about 1 second per 3% of verifying file done and no time for saing file. To run as a control, I dled the same file on my jumOSX version. It took no time verifying file. For all I know, it didn't even do it it went so fast.
