Salut guys, here is a bug report with theme switching on osx: when swithing to a non default os x theme and then switch back, the fonts are smaller (i.e. look at the number of shared files on the low left). If you repeat the same steps as above more times, fonts become non readable.

The theme switching affects info text on OS 10.2 also (and in the stats).

Jens-Uwe's latest CVS build (jum268) includes whatever additons that fixes the UP connections I'd noticed earlier (though only Shareaza seems to be able to connect regularly). I'm not seeing any BearShares or Morpheus UP's connecting though, and average upstream bandwidth still seems low. I do see current rates of 105KB/s for minutes at a time, but overall average is less than 50KB/s. I'm used to expecting ~ 65KB/s (1 slot per person; 100KB/s limit set).

I like the "Connection Quality" info. Can we get more info on what the ranges are, or if there are categories beyond "TurboCharged"?

The Netbeans window--not sure what to make of this. If it allows scripting, then maybe the checknat Applescript Chris Platts wrote for checking that gnutella ports were open on OSX can be adapted for all users

Morpheus leaves and Up cannot connect to you when you are ultrappeer (to avoid their leeching and to avoid increasing query traffic cause by them).

I have Bearshare's UP sometimes but most are dumb old GnuDNA (gnucleus, Mynapster etc...)

The netbeans is included by Jens and is a java terminal (I think) and it is not included by LW developpers. It must help him modifying LW at ease when running it.

There is nothing beyond turbo charged, it is just a rough measure of the perceived connection quality. Turbo charged means 5 or more stable connections as leaf or 10 or more as ultrapeer.

The BeanShell (not NetBeans - that is an entirely different kettle of fish) view is for programmers mostly, and is unique to the jum build. It is not enabled by default, you have to turn it on like the connection view. It allows one to inspect the innards of LimeWire and to extend it while it is running. I did include a sample LimeWire.bsh script inside the disk image, if you copy that to your LimeWire preferences folder new functions and a menu are added.

I tried the script at that location - it was not able to find my computer's real IP address. But a feature like that should be prominently at the first start of LimeWire and not hidden away in a feature mostly intended for programmers and advanced users.

Thanks for the comments/info. I had thought I'd seen BeanShell in the Pro version too, so reinstalled the Pro (it still overwrites the running LW), but no NetBean Shell in View->Show/Hide.

@trap_jaw: I've decided to continue my little support to the LW project, but I'll recommend the jum builds to OSX users irritated by LimeShop. Do you know of a similar link for users of other platforms? Seems to me that the some of the open source spirit can be preserved that way and support for the developers (rather than the business office) can limp along with the voluntary model then.

The introduction of a LimeShop that is not as easily uninstalled is a bad move. Mac users have so little education with that stuff so it's a real FUD magnet. I am not looking forward to defending LW to my colleagues who were afraid of spystuff/virii/other Windows fears. Nor am I looking forward to testing how to uninstall LimeShop when they ask. Most of them will avoid p2p entirely if it means having to carefully read EULA's.

but back to the connection quality--looks like a good move towards setting up a plan to test gnutella connectivity. I hope the next step will be more detailed messages and links/inclusion of something like the checkNAT I linked to earlier: that will at least give users some more info on why they can't connect.
