Default downloads

im downloading a movie and there is probably around 30 sources and while downloading, the highest speed is around 3kb/s. is there anyway that i can speed the download alittle faster? is there anyway that i can change sources to a faster host? i do have a fast connection. does that make a difference? is there anything that i should change in my options settings? is it better that the more i share, the faster the downloads? how can i get lots of "hosts?"

You do not say exactly how many of those 30 sources are actually UpLoading to you... The 'speed' you quote is quite low for a large number of sources.

Simply, yes... Limit all of your other internet related activity... i.e. browsing, chatting, accessing e-mail pages, etc., etc.
Also, obviously, limit the number of files that you attempt to download at the SAME time.

You can only wait until someone with a 'faster' connection begins to UpLoad to you...
(Or, those who are already UpLoading to you stop trying to do too much with too little of their bandwidth, right ?)

Yes, but only in that it provides you with the potential to take advantage of others 'fast' connections...

OK... EVERYTHING you do consumes your available bandwidth... When you are Sharing files, UpLoading, you are not only sending OUT large amounts of data... You are also DownLoading and taking IN large amounts of data related to each and every file you are UpLoading...
You are also needing to deal with transferring data related to the files you are offering in your sharing library... Plus, you are obviously transferring much data between Ultrapeers...

MORE is NOT better... Trying to do the least in terms of transfers at any one time will normally result in faster transfers
AND more overall transfers.
There are many fallacies involved in p2p file sharing...
But, there are also some basic facts/realities...

The bigger your shared library, the more bandwidth consumed for reporting to others what is in your shared library...
The more Ultrapeers you are connected with, the more bandwidth required to maintain those connections...
The more concurrent UpLoads and DownLoads you are running, the more bandwidth you are 'using'...
(As few as only 2 or 3 UpLoads running during a DownLoad of only 1 file can easily, and often, reduce the DownLoad 'speed' by as much as 80%. Honest !)

Fewer, Faster !!!
Get 'em in and get 'em out... Spending hours to UpLoad or DownLoad a file that should go in minutes really means that you are connecting and sharing with fewer people...
More is Less.
