![]() Hi. I just downloaded the new 4.2.6 and have had nothing but problems. It's EXTREMELY slow and then after about 5 minutes just stops responding but stays connected. I can't preview songs, I keep getting an error message saying the file is corrupt but it works fine on my Windows Media Player. I have downloaded the latest Java and deleted the .limewire file. I have tried restarting my computer. I have a broadband connection and am using Windows XP Home (SP2). Thanks for any help....Jessica |

![]() How much internal memory do you have? Are you running in UltraPeer mode? Slow speed may come from the fact that LimeWire now uses a bit more memory (but this can be greatly enhanced by using Java 1.5 instead of Java 1.4, because the 1.5 version has a much more efficient memory manager, notably a faster garbage collector to free up unreferenced/unused memory). To help us, open the Options panel and click on the button to show an example of a "Bug Report". Then copy/paste the content of the dialog that appears. Another reason may be that your PC installation (if it is a PC running Windows XP) has a problem within its UPnP installation. Consider disabling UPnP (and configure your router or firewall yourself), or check the UPnP installation: a problem can come cuased by viral worms that has attacked your PC, and steals you some bandwidth. So check for virus, and adwares... And check for your general TCP/IP settings: notably slowness can come if you have a misconfigured or badly working DHCP server (in a defective router), causing your local IP address on your LAN to change too often. If you don't use DHCP (determine the IP address automatically in Windows), check also that you have not assigned manually conflicting IP addresses on your LAN. Normally Windows should display an alert to you, unless you have disabled the Systems Messages service: in that case such alerts will be only visible in the EventLog viewer.

![]() I have rum Ad-Aware and cleaned my system. The old Limewire worked just fine and so did 4.2.6 the night I downloaded it (which was about a week ago). When I went to run it today is when I noticed the problems. My internet connection is still quick. I'm pretty good with computer but by NO means fluent in the terms. So can you (or anyone) tell me what else it could be? As I said, I've installed the latest Java, deleted the .limewire file and ran Ad-Aware and Spybot. Thanks so much...Jessica |

![]() Just to clarify: Your copy of LW is unresponsive, i.e., you click on something and it doesn't immediately respond? Or, does the graphics user-interface (GUI) respond fine, but the program is slow to locate a connection? Do you have the Connections window enabled? That's a good way to see what the program is doing on the network. Did you uninstall the previous version(s) of Java before installing the new? If not, there might be multiple versions installed. Is there a way to check which version of Java is in-use by Limewire? It should be easy enough to add in the Statistics screen, shouldn't it? |
