Anyone got ideas about the message when LW starts up "upgrade to limewire 4.8, this is a security upgrade" or something like that..what's the security issue then?

no security issue, just a way to bump up downloads from download.com, they want to pass Ad-aware in weekly downloads, and they want to pass Morpheus' 131 Million downloads and Kazaa' 375 Million downloads is all hahaha

In the meantime, I'd highly recommend that all users upgrade to a version of 4.8 or 4.0.10 for Mac Classic users. We are not messing around here folks.
