LimeWire 4.8.1 - REQUIRED Update?

On the main Limewire.com page it says:

"Security Update!! All LimeWire users of versions prior to 4.8 MUST upgrade."

Why must users upgrade? Is there some risk to the network for not doing so? What is the specific security feature that is such a 'must' this time. Is there something in the software from 4.8 that benefits Limewire 'the company' such as stats, or control of some type? Thanks.

the only reason companies that make updates for software have a reason, the reason are verious and broad but all have the same ending: A better built version then last. If you opt for an older version there are verious ricks around & after a sertain point support is dropped for that version. Therefore its always best to use a more Up-To-Dated Version

Well as you said they're for many reasons. One of them is to make more money. They have the copyright & release the advances of the technology on it bit by bit to keep people buying it & upgrading. It's called marketing.

Also I suppose you can beware of some M$ updates/upgrades: Click HERE for an example A proggie with lots of junk inside & out lol :D

LimeWire as a business

I wonder if we could run a company like LimeWire without using any money at all?

Sure, they would say they need to eat and stuff, but what if there really was a way to do it?

I say yes, anything is possible. As a matter of fact this is the exact problem I have been working on for some time.

It seems like a company bent on Free Information Sharing will eventually have to figure out a different way than restricting access to a PRO version.

I updated but it took me a good 5 or 6 attempts to do so.

I have been using Limewire for a couple of years now and this is the first time I have been able to access these forums or any of the features in Limewire.

I guess not being at all teckie really don't help.

This new upgrade was better than the last one as the edit feature of the song details has been reinstated.

Hope to learn more about using it more fully than I have been for the past couple of years.

The notice on the LimeWire web page is insufficient... who ever looks there???

There should be an email sent out to all PRO customers... in batches of a few hundred at a time so everybody does not react simultaneously...

I just happened to update to 4.8.1 (I try to update LW PRO every few months in general.)

I never saw the notice till now!
