Talking downloads.dat file

I always backup my large Limewire downloads at different times from the incomplete folder. But without being able to edit the downloads.dat file, the files won't continue anyway after I put them back into the incomplete folder. How can I edit the downloads.dat file? Is there a program that can view it as plain text so it can be edited? How can we get Limewire to make a viewer/editor? Thanx Rixter
