Default windows xp, java, and limewire

Does anyone have any information as to the status of running java applications on windows xp. I know about the entire virtual machine thing for IE, but what about the runtime. I already tired reloading runtime 1.3 and then limewire 1.7c. It seemed to work, but about a minute or two into using limewire, it would crash/hang the computer. So much for stability. I even tried changing the compatibility option in the limewire shortcut to windows 2000 and 98/ME, and then it caused the javaw.exe to fail totally. That failure was immediate and only cause an error report to Microsoft to be generated, but no system crash. So, are we expecting to see a new runtime from Sun or should this work properly as-is? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Are you using a beta release or the real deal? Home or Pro Edition? Thanks.

Default XP, Java, LimeWire

The 1.3.1 install for the JRE does 1 of two things on here (XP Pro Build 2600, Corporate)... either says it can't install after unpacking due to not being able to run 16-bit apps, or if XP is told to run 16-bit apps in their own VDM, then it just disappears and never does anything. Of course, without the JRE, LimeWire doesn't run.

My workaround was to download the Java2 1.4.0 Beta 3 package instead from Sun... it uses the Windows Installer which works just fine. I then just pointed my limewire icon to...

"C:\progra~1\Java\j2re1.4.0-beta3\bin\javaw.exe" -cp . RunLime

Which works just fine, no problems since.
