Exclamation LimeWire 1.9 features has legal hurdles

I have nothing personally against the new "buy" feature on limewire 1.9.
I think its good for it discourages piracy but at the same time I think it might
send out the message to the RIAA that Limeiwre is willingly producing a
product that infringes copyright and that could be used against them.

Just an observation.

How is having a "buy" button/feature sending the message to the RIAA that they're producing any kind of infringing copyright? Its more than nothing getting people a little closer to buying a CD to stop the RIAA from whining. Think we speak and F*CK THE RIAA.....

Post RIAA don t care

Yes it gets people closer to buying music. But at the same time the RIAA
could say in court that Limewire knew their product allowed for mass copyright
infringement. I know Limewire is trying to do all the right things but the RIAA
are not understanding and will sue anyone that gets too popular.

They cant sue a company just because of a product they make. The reason Napster got sued was because the searches and everything else was going through their servers. For LimeWire it just connects you to other hosts, queries do not travel through router.limewire.com. Thats why the Gnutella network has so much potiental. Because they would have to go after the actual individuals sharing the copyrighted material.

Default Well u know.....

Wel I hope your right for the sake of gnutella. Maybe the RIAA can not
SUCCESFULLY sue LimeWire. BUT even if they took limewire to court,
Limewire could get sucked dry of their assets....the RIAA has millions and
millions of dollars....I know Limewire doesnt. Look whats happening to
Aimster. Even if Limewire is on the right side of the law which I think they
are the RIAA could make them shutdown through bankruptcy. When it comes
to the power of the dollar we all know who has the deep pockets.

Yes, but... It is open source now. Even if they arrest all limecrew (we will all bring you oranges) developing would still go on. The only way to shut down Gnutella would be to force every internet server to filer its protocol... But this seems as unlikely as bringing all us to an international court.
