2.1.0 beta available The beta version of LimeWire 2.1.0 is now available at http://www.limewire.com/index.jsp/download_beta. The primary goal of this release is to increase the number of search results for leaf nodes. Towards this end, leaves now maintain multiple ultrapeer connections. Leaves do not forward messages between ultrapeers, so there is no significant bandwidth overhead. Leaves are also able to recover more quickly from ultrapeer failure. This release also fixes two important bugs that will keep the network healthy. First, the X-Try headers now exclude ultrapeer addresses. This will help non-leaf users connect more efficiently in the future. Secondly, the default number of connections is increased for non-Windows users. It was accidentally 2, not 4, on many platforms. We think this is the best version of LimeWire to date. Any feedback is most welcome! Last edited by crohrs; January 10th, 2002 at 03:32 PM. |

seems to work much better the only problem I had was that it would maintain one ultrapeer connection and then also two .4 protocol connections as well. My connection traffic was high as my modem light was constantly going off. I was able to disconnect from the .4 protocol hosts and then get three ultrapeers, but it would crash constantly while doing this. I think that if you are a leaf, .4 connections should be dropped and the program should continue searching until it can find the three ultrapeers. Also, the speed on Mac OS X is GREATLY improved. Thanks for the hardwork. My six bucks is on the way. |

Wow! This is definitely a big improvement! I'm seeing almost as many results as non 1.9+ versions, and I still have lots of bandwidth left! Keep up the great work!! Is this going into a final production release? |

Interesting..... I have a question about the cydoor/spyware thing. I DON'T want to start a flame war, I just want to ask something. On the Windows installer, has anyone else noticed a lack of Cydoor software being installed? I only found the the two bonzi buddy and trip shortcuts. Running ad-aware did not find anything, so I was somewhat surprised. Oddly enough, the 'cydoor_uninstall.exe' file is still present, and LimeWire still has this entry in the LimeWire.props file: CYDOOR_INSTALLER_CALLED=false Are we seeing a new attitude from LimePeer? Will there no longer be any spyware installed with LimeWire? Any response from the developers would be appreciated. :-) |

Create Cydoor Registry Key I found something else interesting. When you double-click the 'cydoor_uninstall.exe' and it gives you the normal "Error Loading C:\WINDOWS\System32\cd_clint.dll" message it always gives you when cydoor is not installed. However, while watching my registry while performing this operation, I noticed that cydoor_uninstall.exe also creates a registry key at HKLM\SOFTWARE\Cydoor. It has no values, but it's there just the same. Why is this so? If cydoor_uninstall.exe is supposed to clean up cydoor when LimeWire uninstalls, why does it create a key that is going to be left behind? |

I do not mean to imply that LimeWire is responsible for how cydoor behaves. But this file does not appear to be an official one made by cydoor. Otherwise, I would think it would look more like an official uninstaller and not a simple silent uninstaller that only has one error message as a gui. I am commenting because I think it's cool that LimeWire 2.1.0 didn't install cydoor. :-) I'm not trying to cause any trouble. But it doesn't make sense to include an uninstaller for a program that is not installed. I know it's a beta and it might have accidentally been left in, but I'm not sure, so I'm posting about it. :-) Greets, |

I've been told that the source on www.LimeWire.org is not updated until an official release occurs. So, if it's not there, I guess you have to wait. :-) |
