Hi , my tutorial on removal of the ads is still valid !
=> Extract GUIMediator.class from the LimeWire.jar
=> Search for Hex values 04 B3 00
=> Exchange them with 03 B3 00
=> Put the GUIMediator.class back to LimeWire.jar

That's hilarious, you're changing the SHOW_ADS boolean in binary.

Of course, for six dollars with the LimeWire PRO version, you can help support further development.

I found 3 different ways already to disable the ads .

then recommending people to buy the PRO version ?

I'm probably responsible for all the software that you hate (banners, bundles, partners, PRO). Except perhaps keeping LimeWire funded so that it can continue developing advances in the Gnutella network.

However, I am really excited about the new Beta. I think it is a winner and that is why I am telling people to check it out.

the limewire software is quite cool, but these flashy adverts don't impress me much. But I guess , your are already SELLING a lot of ad slots, so why do the beta users who contribute to the project suffer from this ? Sell your PRO stuff to the click-only-users and accept that the keyboard-aware users CUSTOMIZE this product themselves. If you make the advert stuff more attractive (pay-per-click), nobody will be offended by them.

But this would be a totally different business model. Ever seen unwanted ads in Microsoft Internet Explorer, GCC or GNU Emacs ? They are free stuff also.

We are not happy with the flashy adverts either. We currently don't have a whole lot we can do about them unless we break our contract with cydoor. Cydoor runs the ads on the PC.

Finally I now wo to talk to concerning CyDoor .

Idea : Don't break your contract , but ask permission or cut a deal so you are allowed to write your own ad code into LW .
This way you can drop the 3th party software (the CyDoor program) and keep the ads .
Most people don't mind the ads but the CyDoor program behind it .
They just don't like something installed behind (or before) their backs and then discover in their logs that it is sending data back out onto the net .
It's not the ads that people are complaining for , it's the louzy software behind it .

Ask permission to write your own ad code into LW and the forums will blow of some steam and start cooling again .
Rightnow there glowing red-hot .
And bright lights don't last long .(or something like that)

We have asked that on quite a few occasions. They are not really into it. Presumably, they don't want us to write and then fake the advertising results.

Now, I have always assumed that Cydoor just has a bad reputation from its past. I don't really believe that it is communicating other information back to them other then the banner/click-through stats that it builds up. It batches those statistics and fetches bundles of ads. If you can prove to me that it is reporting something else, I would take action on it. I would love to get to the bottom of this.

I would rip the damn thing apart and start reading it's code IF I would understand anything it says .
I'm not a programmer .
I know my Windows inside out , same for my PC and I can write scripts easily , but I don't now jack about programming .

I will be a programmer in 2 years tho , computer classes involving programming don't start in my school until the 5' year in highschool .

Hello
You know that you can stop trying to circumvent the ads by compiling your own version, right? There are no ads in the source code of LimeWire. However, it's not something everybody knows how to do.
