how to speed up downloads after you start a download and it is going slow go to the bottom of the screen and right click on the file that is going slow and search for the exact name file, for some odd reason the file downloads faster after you search for the exact file name, why i don't know |

my guess is that, due to restrictions on the other side (the ones who are sharing it from) eg they only share at say 7kb/s, the more people you find the more people you can download it from so if there are 3 people at 7kb/s then you might get around 21kb/s (not exact figures)..it sounds right to me...but probably wont make much sense |

stured is right--finding more and faster hosts helps, because LW will download from multiple real sources. Also, "general" searches tend to get flooded with the junk and other hosts drop searches once lots of hits have been found. So, a "specific" search goes out to the network further, and finds fewer, but more exact hits. So, specific searches (with each keyword a minimum of 3 letter) go further and find your download the best matching sources. |

One thing to consider is that most firewall programs and anti virus are not alike. My downloads were brought to a crawl thanks to Webroot Spysweeper. I tried it in conjunction with PC CILLIN by Trend Micro and anything I tried to download was either brought to a crawl or denied outright. Nothing beats quality anti virus and other protections needed for safe surfing and dependign on your software, OS, and several other factors can speed up or slow down a computer depending on how paranoid you are. Temprarily shutting these extra defenses off and scanning your share folder BEFORE opening any of them should afford enough protection from sneak attacks. I never shut down PC CILLIN since it does everything I need without getting in the way like invasive programs like Webroot Spysweeper (famous for the message "Registry Change Denied" prior to killing your download and with particularly large DLs like some windows updates can lead to HOURS of lost time redownloading the same update) or Norton Anti Virus which I despise for making computers REALLY slow down. It gets into everything and screws with many applications unless you know what you are doing when you set it up and PC CILLIN still blows it out of the water dollar for dollar with great support and constant (although sometimes annoying) updates. It is one of the most proactive defenses I know. I have heard good things about Microsoft's anti virus software but I am sticking with Trend Micro for now. It just works that good for me. The other suggestions really make a lot of sense and I got to thank the others posting these suggestions since I will have to try them and see how it works with the performance of the search engine used here. Going into the fog is easy. Finding your way home is the tricky part. 4:20 |

I tried it and it brought my PC to a crawl. After I deleted it my PC was working at more than twice the speed. BTW I'm using Panda Platinum Internet Security and allthough annoying at times (having to press "always allow this connection" like 10 times before it figuring out that this connection should always be allowed) as a whole I'm quite happy with it. + It does not use as much CPU as some others on the market right now and it finds pretty much anything annoying. There is one problem with it though. It keeps deleting the EviD Patch like once a week. I then have to turn it off and reinstall the patch and I'm good for another week. (for some reason it won't be added to the exeptions list) |

Right clicking only gives me these options: Cancel download Resume download Pause download Preview download Clear all inactive Chat with host Browse Host Change file location There is a search under Navigation, but it doesn't seem to do anything! |
