Best upload polices?? Hi I have been using limeware for some time know but have a question about the best upload polices as i have so many files on share. Is it best to limit the amount of uploads so that people who are accessing my uplaods have more bandwidth or is it better to let more people share at smaller bandwidth per user just wnated to know what you thought. I know when i down load I would prefer top wait for a faster downlaod than downlaod at a slower pace but what do the rest of you think let me know and keep it up it is good to see so many people sharing advice and help!!! |

Also remember unless it's a rare file they are probably d/ling from more than 1 host. So even if they are only getting say 3 KBs from you they might be getting more from someone else. I allow about 30KBs up with 10 upload slots 2 per person. Sometimes I'll try to help someone out and max out my upload bandwidth(about 46KBs). It's up to you.

most of my shares are rare, and go to those who browse me, so I set for 20 slots per person (95KB/s allocated total). This gives the quick browser who only want s to check out a few files 40KB/s, which is fast enough for them to decide if they want more. If they do want lots, they can still get 20 at a time at a decent rate. The usual advice I've seen is set your slots to upload a minimum of 5 KB/s each. Also, if you run for high uptimes, consider the monthly ISP limits. Mine likes us to stay below 60 GB/month, so if my files are getting too popular, I'll remove the ones that are already out there and give the less known files more of a chance (while easing my monthly rate). I recall one person saying they like to rotate shared folders weekly. |

I have many rare files as well. But I still only allow 5 slots and 2 per user (52 KB/s up) I have tried to mess around with it a bit and it seems like this gives the highest succes rate on my comp. BTW I also share video. If I didn't I would have it set on 3 slots, but if I do that now only videofiles get uploaded |

Upload Slots Read with interest about what settings for upload slots, I wonder if having only a few slots per person limits the network?i.e. I dont know how this works ,but say i'm trying to dload something and host goes offline, or I go offline, and the host only allows 1 or 2 slots, then presumably i'm then unable to connect to that host again? as I.ve used up my slots with that host, then i have to find another host with same file? difficult with rare files, dissconnection may not be your fault,so you are left eith a file only partially dloaded, would it not be better to set upload slots much higher say 200 per person? especially if you are sharing a lot of files? Please excuse lack of know how here but forums have taught me more in the last few wks than months on my own!! but some topics have so MANY suggestions it leaves you unsure of the BEST. Please Advise,Thanks. Newbee2

The only problem with allowing many slots per user is when the greedy user tries to download 5 large videofiles or 30 songs at the same time. If ALL users would restrain them selves from doing thing like that then yes, allowing many slots would be much better. BTW two slots per user does not mean that they only get two uploads. It means that if they try for three at the same time, they get none, which is exactly what they deserve. If Limewire had remote queuing, then the problem would be solved. Unfortunately it doesn't |

Upload Slots AAhh! Thanks that explains two things (and raises another-Groan) explains the ''Banned Greedy Servent'' message which appears sometimes ! Also the slowness in downloading some files, how do people manage to have multiple upload s for the same file? they must know a trick! and also be extremely selfish and impatient!!!! I tried once and get a warning 'File already being downloaded or similar,So wanting to Share is bieng limited as the least best option? should I reduce slots then? Many thanks for answering, Newbee2 OOh other point, does that mean that you can download as many files as u like from any host over a longer time span?

They don't download the same file. They browse host and then pick many files. Which with my settings gets them banned. Then maybe they learn something from it  I have had single hosts download 10-15 files from me with no problem |

uploads Thanks Sleepless, just to clarify,So there are no limits on the amount of times I can connect to a host?( Unless I am blocked) How do people do multiple uploads of the same file? presumably only if the host has lots of slots allowed?(Yes some browse and pick many files) but recently some have got multiple requests for the ONE file, how is this possible? Thanks again.(How u remain Patient i'll never know!)
