Can I *force* my computer to be an ultrapeer? I used to use Limewire Pro 4.8.1 on WinXP Professional with a 2.3mbps connection, and whenever I connected to the Gnutella network I would always be an Ultrapeer (30+ connections) with all the perks: blazing fast downloads, excellent search results and the like. However, since I've been running Limewire (same version) on WinXP Home I am always a leaf node, warts and all: sluggish downloads, awful search results etc. Now, according to the Ultrapeer Election Criteria (http://www.limewire.com/developer/Ultrapeers.html) my computer must have the following:
Since my downgrade to XP Home, the only thing that has changed about my system is the OS. Is the fact that I'm using XP Home the reason I can no longer be an Ultrapeer? |
could be. Easiest check is to see if you can accept incoming connections in the bug reports. THe LW 4.10 series changed the requirements for ultrapeers, but it looks like your connection should be fast enough |
Three questions: 1. is there any link to see the requirements for being an Ultrapeer ? 2. Is there anyway that I would be considered for being one with only 7-8 hours uptime each day. I have Windows XP-MCE 2.3/0.6Mbit Connection For some reason I have on several occations been connected to Ultrapeers that when I browse them have only Cable/Dsl connection. 3. Would that not mean that I am getting results slower than I should + maybe not as many as I should ? |
