Itunes, and limewire

Ok this probaly simple, and i dont know why i am not getting this with how simple it is....but so i can get it right and fully understand next time, without taking a extra 20 minutes....what steps do i exactly need to get my songs ready to be trasfered to itunes....so i can download them on my ipod, i dont know what i am doing wrong...with sharing folders and what not but if anyone could help i would apperciate that alot.
