Try downloading a file from here & see what speeds you get
http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml

Do a speed test & post the results
http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest?more=1

Have you used LW, or other p2p apps before & been able to download at a reasonable speed?
Do you see the firewall icon (brick wall)?
Who is your ISP?
If you've been able to download with fast speeds before, has anything changed (like ISP/plan, hardware etc) since then?
How many green connection bars do you see?

Pine Sol,
Those magnetmix files should download really quickly... that's just a bit of a test. If they download slowly, it often means that an ISP is using traffic shaping & hence the slow downloads within LW too.

Check out this thread, it has good tips to set up LW for best performance

Make sure that you're only using 1 software firewall & that it's configured properly
Firewall setup
How many green connection bars do you see?
LW might be detecting a firewall within your modem/router. Read the UPnP & port forwarding info in the thread below. If your router supports UPnP, enable it & choose the UPnP option within LW's tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Otherwise, you might need to manually port forward.
Connection problems? Check here first!

Did you try downloading a magnetmix file? What speeds did you get?
If you're still stuck, post back with your details

OS(Win XP etc)
LW & Java version (help > about LW & you'll see)
Firewall you're using
Modem/router brand & model
ISP
Connection type (DSL etc)
Where you connect from (home, school etc)
Are you sharing a connection with other computers
Is this your first try with LW

Most likely your modem or router; see the sections here under upnp & port forwarding Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link). Most high speed modems & routers have internal NAT firewalls.

Oops ... sorry birdy ... I'm really slow at the moment ... slow motion. lol
