Question getting rid of album art?

Hi there,

having a problem that none of my other friends seem to have trouble with, but when i download songs from limewire, it automatically downloads some kind of "album art" along with it, which just takes up unnecessary space on my computer. and i dont need the files. it's just a large and small pics of the album cover. and if i try to delete it, it says its a system file and some programs or files may not work. i tried it once, and the song that came with those 2 files didn't work any longer.

can anyone help me delete them?

I think you need to repair the mp3 file (fix ID3-tag) if you delete them. Can't think of any specific program right now that does that. Try Google

If you play the files with some sort of programme which displays the id3tags, such as iTunes, you can open the id3 tag and delete the album art.

This works on Mac and I assume it also works on windows.

alternatively you can use a stand alone id3 tageditor, which, as Sleepless says, you can Google for.

I notice there is an ad at the top of this page for "fixtunes" which looks suspiciously like a rip off of iTunes. It may be good .. but I don't automatically trust advertisements I see on this site, and nor should anyone else. The ads are not, and cannot be, vetted by the forum administration on a regular basis I'm afraid

I've "heard" that this id3 tagger http://massid3lib.sourceforge.net/ (free) is very good, recommended & convenient to use because you can scan mp3's on your desktop very easily. However, I notice it hasn't been updated for a while so I don't know how it performs with album art. But it can hopefully add or remove album art ok. You may want to delete or add back the album art to the actual song file (& not separated as it is)! (I've only used it a couple of times!)

Personally I like album art & have added it myself. If you have song with album art one of an album & you have the entire album, then it's easy to copy the art across to the other songs in one foul swoop!

BTW is the song an mp3 or wma or something? I've heard wmp cannot handle some types of id3 tags.
