Apres Router-changing Browsing After installing router I mentioned not being able to browse, see above for problem fix, it has left me unable to browse myself thru 'direct connect' Then I came across my own address in a search yesterday, but find I cant browse my address, does this mean that no one else can either? I was priding myself on having some good uncommon files, or not so popular ones, but now realise if I cant be browsed, like a lot of others it seems, this must limit the choices and the network?? and what is the point of having a good collection if it cant be seen ??? I realise (Or do I ) that if someone is looking for a particular file and 'Searches' for it, will it show in searches even tho you can't be browsed.( presumably all files available are logged somewhere)oops, excuse bad typing, does this 'browsing' matter? Remain puzzled on this one, especially as before router everything working.Again short of knowledge not of questions !! So if I have a new file to limewire, but you cant browse me, will you know its there or not ?? Newbee2:) |

If you select Direct Connect type search & your ip is listed, then that in itself suggests you don't have a firewall issue. That is the ip you would give someone else to direct connect to you. |
Thanks LOTR, I presume I dont have FW issues, apart from the fact that I cant be browsed, can you answer this,There are many hosts that you can't browse, presumably behind FWalls? I also presume that I can't be browsed(because I can no longer browse myself, and I came across my address in a search, clicked browse and couldn't)If therefore I have say a new to LWire file, which i put in my 'Share' folder,if no one can browse me, then presumably LWire will not 'See' the file???or are ALL files in ALL shared folders logged somewhere?Does this limit the network? Thanks for help, sorry it's more than one question(Again) PS Still cant resume incompletes, resuming eating my own head instead ! Newbee 2 |
LW 4.12.6+ should resume incompletes but perhaps not if you updated afterward the problem of incomplete resuming started. Reading your question is like trying to read back some of my answers. lol :D If someone browses you then it is a type of search. Go to LW's Library window, select one of your shared folders. Then look to the right under Hits & Upload columns as those ones count. Hits are those files that have been seen in searches, Uploads are those that have been attempted to be uploaded. When you share a folder & are connected to Gnutella then it will automatically create hashes for each file (may take some time for each file depending on its size), & be available to be searched on the gnutella network. If unsure, press the Refresh button which re-accounts for all of LW's shared files & folders. The refresh button should not be used too often though. Doing such can affect uploaders & also affect people's search results, & also use more than necessary resources for LW. It starts shared files from zero & recounts/re-adds them. |
Thankyou again, admonishment accepted! as i only half understand, i somtimes have to ask in a different way to get it ! is it worth installing older versions to try and solve 'incomplete' problem or have i just blown it? Newbee 2 |
No once the downld prefs sense a corruption then it is as is. Need to start from scratch in such cases. Going back to an earlier version is one of the ways of corrupting "all" of your incomplete files. :D No I'd suggest starting such files from scratch. So it takes a little longer. At least you'll get them. It happens to many of us I assure you. We learn from our mistakes. lol :D At least with your new downloads with LW 4.12.6 onward you won't need to stress about resuming. |
Many thanks LOTR, fingers crossed for a smooth ride for awhile ! It's only a machine !! help much appreciated. Newbee 2 |
