Maybe it would be a good idea if you could state EXACTLY what is happening when you try to burn with Nero. Step by step.

Are you converting to DVD format with Nero Vision?
What speed are you burning at?
Does Nero appear to be burning to DVD?
Does it abort while burning?
Does it say 'burn completed' (or something similar)?
Can you check the DVD with your computer to see if there is anything on it?
If it does burn, can you check the burn with Nero Drive Speed? (tests quality of burn - number closer to 100 is better)
Do you have any codec packs installed? Which ones?

If we can't solve your problem here, it would probably be a good idea to visit some video forums. Maybe if you browse some of the threads there, you will find a solution.

Good Luck

The thing about the pop-up when you insert the Dvd is that Windows recognize every optical media as Cd no matter it's size, but don't worry, that's noraml in every aspect.

Default need to be walked thru burning DVDs w/avi files

I have a new Packard Bell computer with a DVD creator - but, because I am in Italy, the instructions are all in Italian.

I have downloaded a few movies and TV series from LimeWire - and now would like to copy them onto DVDs.

1) From the research on this site - am I correct in thinking I must download a program to convert the avi files to a format able to be copied to DVDs?

2) Do I have to have another program - such as Nero to copy onto the DVDs after the conversion OR does my computer already have this feature?

Thank you for any assistance!

Default in my opinion nero 7 is best

I tried the nero 7 30 day free trial from nero.com ... in the favorites list it has an option called "make your own DVD" you click on that click and drag your movie you downloaded from limewire into it and push burn.. thats it... no converting whats so ever... I have made 23 movies since I started my free trial, so I am definatly going to be purchasing it. How could I not... Download, click, drag, burn... thats it..

As scotchy19 said, Nero (the newer versions) will convert and burn your movies. It is very easy to use and costs maybe $70-100 USD. Personally, I have very high standards and was not satisfied with the results that Nero produced. However, many people are satisfied with the program, and I am not against you trying it (especially if you want something easy). I use Nero only for burning.

If you want to try an even better product (although it is a bit harder to use), I would recommend TMPGEnc Plus version 2.5 (costs around $60). This program, however, will not burn DVDs, so you will still need a burning program like Nero. It produces very high quality, and there are many guides available to assist in its use. It takes a bit of practice to get really good at using the program.

If you want the easiest way out, you can buy a DVD player that will play AVI movies with no conversion at all. I bought one for about $30. Look for the DivX logo. The downside to this method is that sometimes the movies appear quite small (slightly smaller than a widescreen movie). Some are so small that I wouldn't watch them (if it looks really small on your computer, it will look really small on your TV). If you convert and then burn, you can resize the movies a bit. (I'm not sure if you can do this with Nero).

Finally, I will recommend that you purchase high quality media to burn your movies to. Top picks include Verbatim and Sony disks. DVD+R may be more preferable to DVD-R, and not all players will play DVDRW. You will have to check the specs on your DVD player.

Good Luck

Dano

P.S. See if you can find instructions for your computer software on the internet. Without knowing what programs you have, I'm not sure what programs you may need.

Default more on burning DVDs

Thanks for all the great advice.

Now, this is going to sound really...um.....dumb...BUT

I can not click and move the file from LimeWire to the converting program or to Nero!

In fact - I can't find many of the files I've downloaded - but know they must be somewhere because they do get moved to Real Player if I hit the scan for media line.

HELP!!!

In the limewire library, click on a file and select 'explore' in the bottom left corner of the screen. The folder that contains the file should open.
