Best DVD burning program other than Nero Ive been trying to burn DVDs for a very long time now, and Nero never seems to work, I can never get the song onto it to burn, so what other programs are good that I can try? Thanks |
I like dvdsanta, I use it when Nero fails me.... http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showpo...43&postcount=6 |
Thanks, Ill try it. |
Every time i say create DVD it says that a error has occured and DVD Santa needs to shut down, Ive only tryed it with one movie, and I think it said something about not being able to do the XViD movies? |
It does do xvid's fine...I'd say there's a corruption or something missing in the file that santa can't read....I've had this happen to a few movies as well.... You could try running the file through http://www.video-fixer.com/ and see if it helps...:rolleyes_2: |
try convertxtodvd . it will convert to dvd and burn , so easy to use. |
avi files pls forgive me if this isn't the area for this question. it seems on topic to some posts. I need to split an avi file almost in half or in half. What program will do this or how can I do it? I sure do appreciate you all in these problems I have.:xeri_ok1ani: Thanks |
You could give these a try.... http://www.afterdawn.com/software/vi...ls/dv-tool.cfm http://www.afterdawn.com/software/vi.../vcdcutter.cfm |
I just converted a movie and was using DVD Santa, I selected the write speed (the lowest one) and pressed the Burn! button, all of the sudden and error box popped up with all of these letters on it. I clicked ok, it went away, and the thing said burn complete. It isnt though. Does it have to do with the blank DVD's Im using? Im using the Sony DVD-RW ones, should I try different blank DVD's? I was burning ********, 2 parts, by the way. Also, when I just put one of the blank DVD's into my laptop, the box that asks you what you want to do pops up. It says that it's a CD, and asks me if I want to burn a CD, stuff like that, but it says nothing about a DVD. I have a brand new Dell XPS, and it has a DVD burner. On my old laptop I even bought an external DVD burner and it still didnt work. The only thing I can think of is the blank DVD's being the problem, it's a shame though, I bought 10 for twenty bucks and Im pretty sure I can't get my money back (it's been almost a year). Can anyone confirm this, or have any more suggestions? __________________________________________________ Edited to comply with the House Rules. Joe I've never seen that pop up box before, it could very well have something to do with the discs you are using... Does you comp use - or + discs and is it RW compatible...:rolleyes_2: |
Just another suggestion, and the absolute best in my opionion is AVSMedia.com. AVS Video Tools. It isnt free but it is by far the most easy to use. I have had it for a month and have downloaded and burned about 20 movies so it paid for it self in about 2 days. I have Nero and also tried I'm Too DVD Creator in which both suck in my opionion. AVS will let you try before you buy and once you try it and see how simple it is you won't use anything else. It will also compress the file to fit on one disc so none of that 2disc stuff you have to worry about. Hope this helps!! |
Remoc good info... Just one thing can you edit out the name you mentioned, last thing he needs is alot of attention, if you get my drift...:rolleyes_2: |
You are using a good brand of media. Other good brands include Verbatim, Taiyo-Yuden, and Hitachi-Maxell. (Buy whatever's on sale!) By the way, I only use DVDRWs for temporary files...they are a lot more expensive than DVDRs. If it's a movie you want to keep, I would stick with DVDR, although DVDRWs are good for practicing on! Just something else to check...what disks will your DVD player accept? I would make sure that it will play DVDRW. Good Luck  Dano P.S. I don't know if this will help, but I used to have problems with movie conversion programs crashing. I eventually discovered that it was a CODEC PACK that was screwing everything up! If you have one of these installed, you may want to try uninstalling it. Then, just download the DivX and XviD codecs from their respective websites. I use a program called AVICodec (free) that will identify which codecs I need for movies, although 99% are DivX or XviD (I only download .avi files). |
Thank You you are beautiful. |
I use VLC to watch all my avi. movies by the way, and I am pretty sure that this laptop works with any kind of DVD, including -RW |

I think you should run an AV scan and a spyware one as well just to be safe... |
W32 ;) Thanx I did. I really gotta stop downloading programs. One little game and poof I got a bug. W32 attached itself everywhere I had to dump it all in safe mode with Norton. But on the up side I got norton free for six months now. Grin :) Thanx again |
So Im pretty much gonna just have to buy some other DVD's to burn onto, before I do, what would be the best kind to buy? Only recommend it if it has worked for you, and if it has, can u tell me what program you used to burn your DVD? Thanks. |
Maybe it would be a good idea if you could state EXACTLY what is happening when you try to burn with Nero. Step by step. Are you converting to DVD format with Nero Vision? What speed are you burning at? Does Nero appear to be burning to DVD? Does it abort while burning? Does it say 'burn completed' (or something similar)? Can you check the DVD with your computer to see if there is anything on it? If it does burn, can you check the burn with Nero Drive Speed? (tests quality of burn - number closer to 100 is better) Do you have any codec packs installed? Which ones? If we can't solve your problem here, it would probably be a good idea to visit some video forums. Maybe if you browse some of the threads there, you will find a solution. Good Luck  Dano P.S. help I am fusterated i can get my computer to burn a downloaded movie it keeps saying something like temperarly disconnected i like the limewire vido section:confused: |
MagicISO is another choice to burn cd/dvd and burn iso file to cd and dvd. http://www.magiciso.com/tutorials/miso-burnwin.htm |
The thing about the pop-up when you insert the Dvd is that Windows recognize every optical media as Cd no matter it's size, but don't worry, that's noraml in every aspect. |
And try using a newer Nero version, 7.5 is the last |
need to be walked thru burning DVDs w/avi files I have a new Packard Bell computer with a DVD creator - but, because I am in Italy, the instructions are all in Italian. I have downloaded a few movies and TV series from LimeWire - and now would like to copy them onto DVDs. 1) From the research on this site - am I correct in thinking I must download a program to convert the avi files to a format able to be copied to DVDs? 2) Do I have to have another program - such as Nero to copy onto the DVDs after the conversion OR does my computer already have this feature? Thank you for any assistance! |
in my opinion nero 7 is best I tried the nero 7 30 day free trial from nero.com ... in the favorites list it has an option called "make your own DVD" you click on that click and drag your movie you downloaded from limewire into it and push burn.. thats it... no converting whats so ever... I have made 23 movies since I started my free trial, so I am definatly going to be purchasing it. How could I not... Download, click, drag, burn... thats it.. |
As scotchy19 said, Nero (the newer versions) will convert and burn your movies. It is very easy to use and costs maybe $70-100 USD. Personally, I have very high standards and was not satisfied with the results that Nero produced. However, many people are satisfied with the program, and I am not against you trying it (especially if you want something easy). I use Nero only for burning. If you want to try an even better product (although it is a bit harder to use), I would recommend TMPGEnc Plus version 2.5 (costs around $60). This program, however, will not burn DVDs, so you will still need a burning program like Nero. It produces very high quality, and there are many guides available to assist in its use. It takes a bit of practice to get really good at using the program. If you want the easiest way out, you can buy a DVD player that will play AVI movies with no conversion at all. I bought one for about $30. Look for the DivX logo. The downside to this method is that sometimes the movies appear quite small (slightly smaller than a widescreen movie). Some are so small that I wouldn't watch them (if it looks really small on your computer, it will look really small on your TV). If you convert and then burn, you can resize the movies a bit. (I'm not sure if you can do this with Nero). Finally, I will recommend that you purchase high quality media to burn your movies to. Top picks include Verbatim and Sony disks. DVD+R may be more preferable to DVD-R, and not all players will play DVDRW. You will have to check the specs on your DVD player. Good Luck  Dano P.S. See if you can find instructions for your computer software on the internet. Without knowing what programs you have, I'm not sure what programs you may need. |
more on burning DVDs Thanks for all the great advice. Now, this is going to sound really...um.....dumb...BUT I can not click and move the file from LimeWire to the converting program or to Nero! In fact - I can't find many of the files I've downloaded - but know they must be somewhere because they do get moved to Real Player if I hit the scan for media line. HELP!!! |
In the limewire library, click on a file and select 'explore' in the bottom left corner of the screen. The folder that contains the file should open. :rolleyes_2: Dano |
This should help....It's a step by step walk through...;) http://www.gnutellaforums.com/tips-t...7-premium.html |
Thanks Wondering Why Thanks so much for your generosity in helping! The directions say it takes about 2 hours to burn a DVD - say I want to burn a TV series which has 12 episodes. Do you know if more than one will go onto a single DVD? |
Nero will actually tell you whether it will fit and what the quality would be like... Personally I would go for maybe 3 or 4 episodes on the 1 dvd...The more you try and cram on the crapier the picture and sound quality will be...;) |
excellent-Thanks again! Thanks again... |
hey, I tried to get tv episodes from limewire, but I can never find a whole season worth of files.... was there a particular way you looked up for your search.. .. also, you just click and drag the files to nero, and watch the bar at the bottom, I made my daughter a dvd of preschool shows and three fit on it good, and there about 23 minutes each.. |
ohhhhh ... im very sorry, I was just refering to wondering why's post, but i didn't mean to put in the name of the files i was looking for... i apologize, i just wanted to know how they got episodes for a whole season to download.... it wont happen again. thanks |
or i mean alasakity's post... again sorry |
You may have better luck finding entire seasons if you look for torrent files. The newest beta version is capable of downloading torrent files. Good Luck Dano |
thank you... its fixed. |
torrent files? how do i specifically look up torrent files? |
There are many websites that have torrent files. Google the word 'torrent' and you will find some. Like Limewire, however, you have to beware of fake files. One of the nice things about torrent websites is that you can leave comments on files and report bad files. In my experience, torrents download slower, but I have had better luck finding complete seasons, complete albums, etc. It can take a week or so (for me) to download a complete season. I don't have the torrent capable version of LW. I use a program called uTorrent, because it doesn't hog my CPU. Using both at the same time, though, usually messes up LW, so if you want to do both, I would use the new beta version of LW. It splits up your bandwidth between LW (gnutella network) files and torrent files. ;) Dano |
i have limewire 4.12.3 is that the one you are refering to? |
I use NeroVision Express 3 not the DVD creator and have burned 100 or more DVD's with no problem except for a corrupted file. Usually I can fix it using Roxio's VideoWave 5 Power Edition to edit the start and finish points and convert to AVI or MPEG files then burn with Nero and it works great. I hate Roxio for anything else. |
