Question Ultrapeer Connection

I've noticed when I remove connections Lime Wire sometimes switches me from leaf to ultrapeer. Is there a way I can do this without removing connections over and over? I have Ultrapeer enabled in settings. Just looking for an easier way to go back and forth from leaf to ultrapeer.

If you're connected as a leaf, you'll connect to 3 ultrapeers (if you use LW basic) or 5 ultrapeers (if you use LW Pro).

If you connect as an ultrapeer then you'll connect to around 30 peers (other ultrapeers) & around 30 leaves (people with a slower connection & who may be firewalled).

When LW changes your status from leaf to UP, it does that automatically (depending on whether the network needs UPs at the time) so there's no way to control which UPs/peers you're connected to at the time of the changeover.

Thanks Birdy. I think that would be a nice feature in the future.

Can you tell me where I would look to determine my status? I assume, from my typical connection to 3 UPs, that I am a leaf. I often (3-5 x per week) leave my LW connected overnight, what else can I do to bump my status?

Please let me clarify, I did ready the sticky, I'm not trying to 'force' an upgrade to my status because based on my ISP, my wireless router and my lack of techno-savvicity I don't think I can 'force' an upgrade. So I'm curious how this upgrade would occur naturally.

Thanks ~

To become an ultrapeer, you need to have a reasonably fast connection speed & not be firewalled (ie not see the brick wall firewall icon). Providing you're not firewalled, you'll connect as an UP when the network needs UPs.

To see whether you're a leaf or an UP, click on LW's Connections tab...your connection status shows in the top left corner, just above the column headers. Yep, if you're only connected to 3 UPs then you're a leaf. If you're connected as an UP then you'll see heaps of connections to peers (other UPs) & leaves in that connections pane
