Upload speeds and incomplete downloads Can someone please help me? I have configured my upload speed so that it is slower (10.94kbs) but it is uploading way faster than what I have set it as. I have upgraded limewire to its most current version 5.2.13 or something. The older version would upload very slow but this new version allows settings to be changed but it does not comply with what I have set it as. The reason I have made it slow is because in NZ we get charged for upload and downloads and I am on a 20gb plan. I would like to downlaod more than what I upload but with the new limewire version it means I am getting charged 70% upload and 30% download. 50/50 would be nice or more download. Or for the options I set it to to be correct. Also, when I upgraded to the new version I lost an incomplete download which I had been doing for months. I was at 18.96gb of 21gb and then lost it when I upgraded. I am not very clued up with this but I know the basics if any one can help. Thank you! |

when you are changing the settings are you choosing apply or somesuch? (I haven't used LW in a while, but in many programs simply hitting OK does not apply the changes)

I ues pirate bay for the torrent and limewire as the program it uses to download/upload. Some technical terms there for me so I think thats what you meant. When I save the settings it does say save/ok and when I go back in to check, it is on the lowest upload speed but is uploading way faster than what I set it to. Really sucks that my upload is super fass and my download is slow. Upload can be 135kbps and download as low as 10 kbps. Any ideas? |

yes, with torrents you are expected to give back. Unlike most torrent programs, LW does not keep track of your share ratio. However in settings it auto-shares at a particular rate or attempts to. You can potentially change this but not sure what effect it will have with your downloading as well. Normally with torrents, the more you share back, the better the downloads are. If a torrent has problems with %'s etc. then perhaps re-open the torrent file you downloaded from the site. Well, I'm across the tasman and my isp does not include uploads on my monthly quota at all. It only counts download bandwidth used. So even if I get shaped for going over my quota, my uploads will be non-capped. |

Lucky for you my friend. It may very well be my ISP but as I am on a package it is the cheapest option. In NZ we get ripped off for alot of things as their are not very many companies offering services competitively as opposed to larger countries. I guess things could be worse so I am grateful for what I have. My uploads at the moment are going well over my download %. With the previous version of limewire this was not the case. If i set it as 1 max upload at a rate of 10.94kbs then thats what it would do but the new version does not do what I set it to. Quite stink really when its an upgrade it is not better (to me) than the previous version...unless I am doing something incorrectly. Thanks anyway for your advice. |

If you go to Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> SuperReallyAdvanced -> BitTorrent, & check the option for user manage, you can control upload speeds there for torrents. This is for LW 5.2.13, but when 5.4 is released this will be implemented as a part of the main upload speed setting which will universally control both gnutella network & torrent speeds. |

Thanks Lord of the Rings. You are awesome! That seems to have worked. It was as easy as that. I appreciate your help. Now if someone can tell me hot to resume incomplete downloads form my previous version of limewire then I would be a happy dude. It was at 18.96 of 21gb downloaded then when I upgraded to 5.2.13 I lost it. Even when I click on the same torrent, limewire says that I am already downloading it. Someone help? |
