Angry Files that won't delete.

I have a few files on my computer that won't delete. I've read a few threads about this subject, but so far my problem seems to have a few unique qualitys about it.

First I just selected one of said files and hit shift+delete, but nothing happened. No response, no eror mesage, nothing.

I tried to drag the files to the recycle bin and, again, nothing happened.

so then I right clicked it and the menu that poped up only had preveiw, edit, print, open with and send to. So I tried the open with and it's completly empty. The send to option was also unresponsive.

Then I tried looking at the properties by selectin the file and using the file buton on the tool bar, and every feild was empty.

I've restarted my PC, used Unlocker, anti virus, anti spyware programs, I've even tried to delete them in safe mode. Still nothing.

So.....now what???

I downloaded a file like this recently, in fact last Saturday, I eventually deleted it by highlighting the file in LWs library and pressing the delete button at the bottom of the screen. Worked like a charm.

Question Undeletable files/folders

I haven't downloaded any such files/folders, but I have a few of them anyway. One such folder is listed as "xerox" in my Program Files. It contains nothing but a directory called nvwia which is empty. When trying to delete it, it says the file nvwia is in use by another user or program and to delete it, close that program/log off that user. This is a standing problem that has been with this computer since I got it second-hand from my mom's boyfriend. It was his company's server.

Sorry for posting it with this forum, but this is the first ever I have seen on the problem.

The machine is a Compaq (I know, HP, now) Proliant ML370 G2
WinXP Pro SP2
P3 1.266 GHz
1536 MB RAM
4 RAID-discs (total 200+ GB)
HP NC3163 Fast Ethernet NIC 10/100 Mb

restart your computer, and as soon as you pass POST (Power On Self Test) and BEFORE you start the boot sequence into your os, start hitting F8 on your keyboard. it might take a few tries before you get it right.

a menu will pop up giving you various options, choose safe mode without networking (for security reasons)...when you now get into your OS things will look weird, don't worry about that...then do your deletion and clearing of your trash can...

reboot, and things should be back to normal as far as what you visually see, and the files will have been deleted

Default Files that won't delete

I use XP and the only way I was able to get the files that wouldn't delete off was:
1. Move everything else (other than sub-directories) out of that folder.
2. Reboot in safe mode WITH COMMAND PROMPT.
3. Get to that directory using command line and then type "delete *.*" and hit enter.
4. Confirm the deletion by pressing "Y" and the files will be deleted.
5. Type EXIT to go back to windows.
6. If computer doesn't shut down or restart turn off with power button.
