Does anyone know how to stop the limewire extreme popup that popups every minute or two?

Depends what kind of popups they are. Sounds suspicious to me. Your LW might have found a virus or something.

Else in settings you can reset popups. Tools -> Options -> Miscellaneous. If you are receiving the license warnings, see License requirement (click on link) to see how to set LW not to show these warnings.

I've completely removed Limewire and this popup takes over my whole screen and i cant do anything until it goes away...

Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point 3 in Fixes for Limewire (Sample image). If it still occurs after reinstalling LW then sounds like a virus.

you're getting a pop up out of the blue?...without having LW running? with LW in fact uninstalled?

I haven't used LW in a while, but that really sounds suspicious...

right clixor on that popup and choose properties and see what it says...if it doesn't point to Official Website & Free Download - Lime Wire then something has happened that is not right...

did you get your copy of LW directly from Official Website & Free Download - Lime Wire

Sounds like your browser has been hijacked by adware, this piece of malware may have used LW as a route to get into your computer but, by the little you have written, this malware now exist on its own.

There are a number of things you can do to get rid of this "pop-up".

1) Download, install and run Ad-Aware:

Ad-Aware by Lavasoft - Antivirus software, free spyware removal, firewall

2) Also download, install and run Spy-Bot:

The home of Spybot-S&D!

And if these two don't get rid of your malware (pop-up) then you are going to have to delve deeper with "Hijack This" but you will need help to use it.

I find AdAware and Spybot to be a little outdated, and not what they used to be, but that's just me.

You may also try these. Both have Free versions. The Pro versions, which arn't free, gives Real Time Protection.

I just downloaded, installed and run Malwarebytes, I was surprised (and not so surprised) to find four pieces of malware on my PC, i.e. a "Trojan.Agent", two instances of "Hijack.Help" and a "Hijack.Homepage".

Whether they are real malware or false positives I don't know but I deleted them anyway.

However, it also goes to show that different anti-spyware apps specialise in different malware types and it pays to have a number of AS apps to take care of the various problems that sneak into your PC while surfing.

Also, malware writers don't stand still, they are constantly looking for new ways to infect PCs without being detected, therefore Remoc you are correct when you point out that Ad-Aware and Spybot are "dated" (OK, outdated).

But I still believe that the old malware threats are still out there it just that now we have to contend with new and evolving threats as well.

Just to let you know, before I used Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware by PC had developed an occasional start up problem but I didn't think too much about it. I originally put it down to the age of my computer, i.e. being over 7 years old and packed to the hilt with extra hardware and software utilities.

However, since running Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and deleting the the four pieces of rubbish it found (see my previous post in this thread) my PC starts up normally again.

It just goes to show that it pays to run several AS apps rather than just the old favourites.
