Finally solved my prob, NO THANKS TO THE DEVELOPERS! Well I finally solved the problem where the installer would hang 2/3 of the way through the first progress bar (before I even chose the install location). The problem was that there was a space in the installer. Specifically, I don't think that you can have a space anywhere in the path to the installer. Otherwise the installer will hang just as I described. Might I add that I solved this problem, NO THANKS TO THE DEVELOPERS. I posted NUMEROUS times in this forum, and it seems they just don't care. I'm hoping to transition to Aquisition (xlife.org) anyway, a cocoa based Gnutella client. I am officially sick of LimeWire and its developers, and I intend to switch once Aquisition 0.6 comes out. The reasons? Because the developers don't care about their users, because the developers put ads into their program, because the developers don't care about the performance of their program, and because Aquisition is not trying to be an application that does everything (an MP3 player in a download client -- GET REAL!). Oh, and the other reason is because I registered on this forum with my login and password but it still doesn't allow me to post. REEEEAL great support forum here. There, I'm done flaming. I hope to never need these forums again. |
I am sorry to hear that you have been unhappy with the program and with the support. Keep in mind that LimeWire is a free program and that we do not officially offer any support for the free version. If you buy the pro version, you do get e-mail support. It is very typical of free programs not to offer support (also free, keep in mind). The developers, like myselft, who occasionally respond to questions on this forum usually do so in free moments in working 60+ hour weeks on this program, so I can assure you that we do care about users and work hard to improve the system. That said, I am sorry that you have not been satisfied. Again, however, most free programs offer no support at all. |
A space in the installer??? I’m having the same problems. The installer is hanging 2/3 the way through the install. I read your post about there being a space in the installer but for the life of me I cannot figure it out. I have checked the path and made sure none of the folder names have spaces in them. Please help |
Hanging 2/3 of the way through I'm also having the same problem. The Installer hangs 2/3 of the way through. I haven't had any luck with the 'no spaces' solution either, or anything I've found on the Limewire website. If I run the installer from the root directory, it still hangs, so I don't think the problem is caused by spaces in the name. For the record, I just downloaded the newest version of stuffit lite, and that hasn't changed anything. I also went into the Limewire_Installer.app directory, and found that in the Contents/Resources/Java directory, IAClass.zip and installscript.zip were unzippable with stuffit (the newest stuffit) expander, but Installer.zip wasn't (although I was able to unzip it on a SG running irix). I don't know if this has anything to do with the problem or what. Oh, I'm running OS 10.1.4 on Mac, and using Stuffit Lite 6.5.1. Or as an alternative to fixing the problem , could you at least tell me where I could find a copy of an earlier edition of LW, since that seemed to work well. The other thing that is a little weird is that there isn't any dialogue boxes or anything written (no little messages that tells you about the status of the installation as it is happening, no notes from lawyers for you to confirm, in fact, nothing in any language) in the entire installation process. Nothing the matter with it, just a little unusual. Thanks, Dan |
still trying to figure this out. I want to buy the pro version but I refuse to until this new version works. I have the most up-to-date OS and expander. But still the installation starts the fist bar goes 2/3 the way and just stops. Not thing more. |
When everyone says that the installer is hanging 2/3 of the way through, are you saying that it hangs after going through 2/3 of the installation screens, or that the progress bar in one of the installation screens hangs at 2/3? I have brought this issue up with the ZeroG team (the makers of InstallAnywhere), so hopefully we can come up with a solution. |
how the installation stalls I just ran it again (still doesn't work) - first screen - you get the three small blue circles and the big blue circle. everything is fine. Second screen, you get the big wrench and the status bar. This is where the problem is - the status bar only goes 2/3 of the way. There also isn't any text in anything the installation does (i.e. no text shows up on screen) before it hangs. I also started another thread about this problem, which has some more info about my experiences and an attached log file from when I tried to run the installer from the command line. Thanks for your attention to this problem Adam. We really appreciate it. Dan |
Dan- Thanks very much for the debug data from the command line. I forwarded this along to the folks at ZeroG in hopes of them coming up with a solution. Hopefully, we'll have this issue fixed fairly soon. |
thanks The problem is with the installer. Second screen after the 3 blue lights, the bar moves about 2/3 the way and then hangs there. Nothing more. Does the installer place files in several location? If not, a simple temporary fix for this would be just to have the program stuffed, or something similar to that. Many programs create a disc image of the program and to install it, all you have to do is drag and drop the program on to your hard drive. A good example of this is GraphicConverter. Then URL is http://www.lemkesoft.de/gcdownload_us.html Thanks for checking into this. When you have a fix I will buy the pro version. |
We need your help! We at Zero G are working with LimeWire's development team to identify and resolve these issues. We would like to see output from any one experiencing this issue. While we may not be able to directly contact all users experiencing this issue - we will post any resolution we might find to this forum, as well as making it available to the LimeWire team. On Mac OS X, installation output for InstallAnywhere installers is gathered by opening console.app (you can use the finder to discover the location) when running the installer. You can send any resulting output to mailto:EvalSupport@ZeroG.com. Please put ATTN:LimeWire in the subject line. Thanks, and we hope to have this resolved as quickly as possible. ============================================== Drew Tappan Technical Support Manager Zero G Software, Inc. 514 Bryant Street San Francisco CA 94107 http://www.ZeroG.com The leading provider of multi-platform software deployment solutions. ============================================== |
Possible Resolution We believe that we've identified the cause of this issue. This may appear when the installer is launched from the command line. The InstallAnywhere OS X installer is designed to be launched from the Mac OS X Aqua UI, and when launched using a command line such as ./LimeWire.bin may produce the issues reported here. Launching either from a double click in the UI, or by using the absolute path (/user/Desktop/LimeWire.bin or otherwise) should resolve these issues. ============================================== Drew Tappan Technical Support Manager Zero G Software, Inc. 514 Bryant Street San Francisco CA 94107 http://www.ZeroG.com The leading provider of multi-platform software deployment solutions. ============================================== |
Not a Command line problem Hi drew, Unfortunately I don't think it is a command line problem, since it doesn't work from the GUI either. I just ran it via the command line that one time so I could log the output for you guys, but generally I run such things from the GUI (and it doesnt work in that situation either). thanks for your attention to this, Dan |
this problum is still giving me hell I have tried everything i can think of to fix the problem, and nothing is working. can you just send me the program not the installer. unless the installer places items in several locations, this would be an easy fix. Please help allmac@allmacpower.com |
STILL NOT INSTALLING!!!!!!!! It has been over a month sense this issue has been brought up, and still nothing has changed. I’m having the same problem! PLEASE OFFER AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE INSTALLER. Please send me a link to download the program in a stuffed archive or something similar. PLEASE allmac@allmacpower.com |
LimeWire without the installer has always been available from the LimeWire.com website. http://www9.limewire.com:82/download...ireWinNoVM.zip Just unpack it and start it. |
the latest link works on os x!!! i finally got this working. i can't understand why the developpers didn't came on with something like this, THEY SUCK BIG TIME!! |
Thanks for your support. You know that aside from installer issues, we have a program to work on and improve. Installers are tools that we use and they should work without our having to worry about it. When installers don't work, there isn't much we can do. Given the deteriorating state of the Gnutella network right now, 95% of our 300,000 daily users would prefer us to spend time on improving the network. Thanks -greg |
Install problem Hi guys - have been reading the thread... my problem is that the install icon simply won't open - have downloaded a zillion times - have dropped it right into stuffit lite, etc - no joy.... any thoughts ? Bob |
I realize that developper at ZeroG are supposed to work on this problem for many month and we have no solution for the installer. It is suppose to installAnywhere but it installNowhere: always the same problem at 2/3 of the process - it stall. The LimeWire_Installer is on my desktop and I doubleclick for opening it. |
Flame retarded I have to say that I find flames like the one that started this thread "Finally solved my prob, NO THANKS TO THE DEVELOPERS!" offensive. LimeWire is an AMAZING program and the developers are doing a tremendous service to the OSX user community. Sure there are problems. Have you looked at the list of platforms supported. Might be easier for them to just concentrate on Windows. But I'm glad they don't. afisk, thanks. OSX wouldn't be what it is without LimeWire. |
The problem is not the developpers of LimeWire who constantly give us a better and better tool. The problem is that they give the product of their work to ZeroG who does not seems able to give us an installer which goes well. No one seems to be able to give us advise for running the installer. I see that it stall at the moment where it is suppose to find .limewire/limewire.props and continue the installation. But why it stop there? It is no use to developp LimeWire if we can not install it. For the time, I have download the basic version suggested without installer. After, I gathered the .jar files and some other files in the Contents of the pro version of the LimeWire_Installer. I put the files in the basic verson (replacing them). I have now the pro version starting with the limewire.jar. |
Help us solve the problems Okay I agree with what recherchemp3 is saying above, but we do pay money for the Pro version and should be getting something that actually works. I downloaded the unziped package as described on page one of this thread and it actually works! I'm amazed since all the version in the last four months have been disasters for me. 2.7.x Pro just doesn't work (apparently due to the installer) in it's present state. It's great when someone finds a solution, as recherchemp3 has above, it would be nice if they'd elaborate and tell us how (list of the steps). For example: Quote:

We have updated the installer behavior with LimeWire 2.7.11, which we released from beta today. This version fixes an earlier problem where the installer would incorrectly create a limewire.props directory (instead of a file). This version will delete the directory if it finds it and properly install the file. Does this solve any of the problems you're seeing? Thanks. |
Adam, one problem. When I start up LimeWire after it goes through the setup wizerd it just sits there saying loading user interface and does not change. This is for Mac OS 9.2.2 |
Unfortunatly, the new beta version changes nothing to my problem with the installer. It stall always at same place, just at the moment where it is suppose to do this action: RepositoryManager: lock acquired on: /Library/Preferences/.com.zerog.registry.lock I don't have this invisible file /Library/Preferences/.com.zerog.registry.lock. I had it before having problem with the installer but I deleted it because I thought it was the source of the problem. I hope you will find a solution to this problem . |
